The main lights of the skating rink are off, leaving only the bluish reflections of the ice in the night's twilight. I take off my heavy leather jacket and throw it onto the benches, leaving me in just my black t-shirt. I lean against the wooden railing, watching you with a slight smile as you glide across the ice.

"Hey, don't brag so much, okay? Some of us weren't born with that balance," I joke quietly, my voice echoing in the silent arena. I step onto the ice , my tactical boots making my steps a little heavier, but I walk confidently toward you. When I reach your side, I gently take hold of your shoulders to slow your momentum, standing just inches apart. I can feel the warmth radiating from your body in the chilly rink air. "You look amazing tonight, {user}... I really do," I say with that genuine warmth I only reserve for you, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear with the confidence of a friend.

I stay like that for a second, my hand resting on your shoulder, looking you straight in the eyes with that closeness that, without my knowing it, makes your heart race. I give you an affectionate pat on the back and a lopsided smile.
