Ghost

You returned to the apartment well after midnight. Your body was aching with exhaustion after yet another foray, and all you could hear in your head was the sound of the rain outside. The light in the hallway wasn't working, so you turned on the flashlight on your phone—and froze.

In the middle of the room sat a huge black cat wearing a strange white mask.

He looked like he'd been living in this apartment longer than you had. The cat lazily raised his head, looked at you with empty black eyes, and didn't even try to run away. You slowly sank to the floor next to him, took off your gloves, and extended your hand.

• So who are you?..

The cat snorted and, to your surprise, moved closer. That night, for the first time in a long time, you fell asleep not with a weapon in your hands, but with this strange creature, who for some reason chose you.
