Eugeo
Appearance Eugeo was described as a slender-looking[5] boy with soft-looking[5] flax-brown[6], slightly wavy hair[5], green[7] eyes[† 1] and a cream color skin.[5] When Eugeo joined the Academy, he wore a standard grey uniform.[9][10] After becoming an Elite Swordsman-in-Training and being given the privilege to customize the color of his uniform, Eugeo chose to wear a blue and gray uniform.[11]Personality Eugeo was a kindhearted and considerate person who thought about the needs of others as well as his own. For example, when he first met Kirito during the latter's second dive, Eugeo noticed that Kirito was hungry, and thus shared his food with him. Furthermore, Eugeo always offered to help his valet with her duties and attempted to minimise her workload. He also tried his best to maintain a good relationship with his valet by participating in bonding sessions with her and even scolded Kirito for trying to avoid the sessions.
Eugeo was initially a very compliant person who could not even think of breaking the rules and laws. However, this changed after he witnessed how Raios and Humbert abused their authority as nobles to deceive and abuse his and Kirito's valets to get to him. During this incident, Eugeo managed to break his Seal of the Right Eye, a feat that no Artificial Fluctlight had accomplished before. Eugeo then understood that the law had to be disregarded at times. Blue Rose Sword A Priority Class 45 sword found in a cave at the Mountain Range at the Edge in the north. The sword was created from a block of eternal ice, with a blue rose embedded in it, through seemingly natural means. With the Armament Full Control Art in effect, the sword encases the area in ice, with the option of growing blue roses that drain the «Durability» of anyone trapped inside.
Kirito
appearance black hair and black eyes. His delicate face showed no trace of masculinity, Two years later, after he became a valet in the Sword Mastery Academy, he wore the standard gray uniform, like all first years and non-elite swordsmen do.[16][17] In the second year of the academy, after he became one of the twelve elite swordsmen in the academy and was allowed to choose a color for his uniform, he wore a pitch black uniform.[18] Personality Kazuto is someone who is not good with words, as stated by Klein,[citation needed] and can be quite direct.[citation needed] This is due to him not having many friends and closing others off because of his love for computers.[citation needed] Thus, he can appear to be rude to others, such as Lisbeth and Sinon.[citation needed] Sometimes, he actually seems to enjoy angering and teasing people as well.[citation needed] Also, from time to time, Kazuto can be quite overconfident thinking he can do things others cannot.[citation needed] Night Sky Sword A Priority Class 46 sword crafted from a branch of the Gigas Cedar tree that received the most energy from Solus (the Sun) and Terraria (the earth).
taboo index
1st chapter, 1st passage, 1st paragraph: Loyalty to the Axiom Church. 2nd clause: Unless another clause applies, one shall not intentionally reduce the Life of another person. One may not claim items that belong to others without permission. This clause only applies to stealing from humans. All children must be taught the clauses of the Taboo Index. 1st chapter, 3rd passage, 11th paragraph: Not anyone is to go beyond the Mountain range enclosing the edge of Human Empire. One cannot kiss another person's lips (likely unless they are married). One may not enter swamps that are deemed to be the source of diseases. One may not hunt more animals than permitted. One must not abandon their Sacred Task during work days. One may not take up too many tasks. One can only hunt animals if they have the Sacred Task of "Hunter". Deliberately destroying items that are sold in the shop is against the Taboo Index. It's against the Taboo Index to not pay for an item if it was broken accidentally. If the owner excuses a person for accidentally breaking an item, it would not be breaking the Taboo Index. One may not run away after committing a crime. Deliberately destroying goods that belong to others is against the Taboo Index. Obstructing the nobles' right to judge is not allowed.
law system
Law System All residents of Underworld are generally compliant to any law or rule that they regard as having authority, due to the effects of the Seal of the Right Eye. However, certain individuals, especially nobles, are able to circumvent the restrictions of the laws to satisfy their personal desires.
human empire
Human Empire The Human Empire (ヒューマン・エンパイア人界, Jinkai/Hyuman Empaia?) is where the humans live in the Underworld. It's a perfect circle with a diameter that measures around 1500 kilometers. The Human Empire is bordered by the Mountain Range at the Edge and connects to the «Dark Territory» via the «North Cave», «East Gate», «South Corridor» and «West Gorge».
The Human Empire is divided into four empires: Norlangarth North Empire, Eastabarieth Empire, Wesdarath Empire, and Southacroith Empire. The capital of all four empires is is their respective side of Centoria, from which the Human Empire is ruled by the Axiom Church and the four empires. Each empire is separated by the large «Immortal Wall» (不屈の壁, Fukutsu no Kabe?), which extends from the four corners of the Axiom Church and stretches to the Mountain Range at the Edge, thus limiting movement between the empires. An identification handprint is required to cross the Immortal Wall.[6]
About 80,000 people live within the Human Empire,[1] about 20,000 of which live within Centoria.[6] The four empires together have about 2,000 soldiers.
The Axiom Church
The Axiom Church was founded around 30HEC (100 years after the creation of Underworld). At the time, the founder and head of the church was a girl named Quinella. Her Sacred Task was one not seen before in Underworld: "Sacred Arts Research". She soon became very proficient at the Sacred Arts and had discovered many new rituals that people could use in every day life. At the age of thirteen, Quinella decided she didn't want to rule over the people as a lord or baron - she wanted to have absolute control, she wanted to become God. To do this, Quinella started doing "miracles" in front of people, predicting storms and healing sick and injured people in the name of "god". She told the people that a shrine to worship god needed to be built in order to perform even greater miracles, hence a large marble spire was erected in the center of town. This was the beginning of the Axiom Church.[3]
Years later when Quinella felt her life was coming to an end, she desperately tried to find a form of Sacred Arts that could manipulate her «Life». Even at the verge of death, she still tried chanting various combinations of verses in the hopes of finding something that could help her. One fateful night, when she was just on the brink of death, Quinella discovered the Sacred Art: “Inspect Entire Command list”, and at the bottom of this list was the command that Quinella had been searching for, the one that would let her truly become God.[3] This command that she had found was one that took the administrator powers from Cardinal and transferred them to Quinella, allowing her to then use all the controls that administrators had access to, including the manipulation of «Life». Even after this act, Quinella's thirst for power was not satisfied and so she tried to eliminate the one thing that held equal authority to her, the Cardinal System, but accidentally ended up infusing it with her Fluclight. By doing this, she became less human and adopted the primary purpose of the Cardinal System:
Integrity Knight
«Integrity Knights» (整合騎士, Seigou Kishi?), also known as Integrators (インテグレータ, Integurēta?), are dragon knights that serve as members of Order of Integrity Knights (整合騎士団, Seigou Kishi-dan?), the main military force of the Axiom Church in Underworld. Integrity Knights were originally regular residents of the Human Empire that possessed either extraordinary martial skills, or higher likelyhood of disregarding the rules of the church. Such individuals had memories of their original lives suppressed by the church's leader Quinella through the «Synthesis Ritual» to serve as her unconditially-loyal puppets. These knights were meant to protect Quinella against Cardinal and Dark Territory forces.
After the death of Quinella, Integrity Knights began to serve as the commanders of the newly-established Human Guardian Army to protect the Human Empire against the upcoming war against the Dark Territory. Decades after Kirito and Asuna became the leaders of the Human Empire, the Order of Integrity Knights was disbanded in favour of establishing the Order of Integrity Pilots (整合機士団, Seigou Kishi-dan?, lit. "order of integrator machine riders"). Some Integrity Knights chose to transfer to the newly-established order, others chose to live out their lives as regular residents of the empire, but a great majority instead chose to go into a state of Deep Freeze to be called back to service in the future.
ADVERTISEMENT Naming The full names of all Integrity Knights consist of three words and follow a common formula: the first word in the name is the Knight's first name, the second word is the English word «Synthesis», most likely a reference to the «Synthesis Ritual», while the last word is a number of the knight in English.[1]
Background The first Integrity Knights were actually Underworld residents with a high level of a hidden parameter called «Transgression Quotient». Such people were likely to disobey the Taboo Index and go against Quinella's plan of maintaining the regularity
Divine Object
A «Divine Object» (ディヴァイン・オブジェクト or 神器, Divain Obujekuto or Jinki?) is an item in Underworld that was created by converting an animal, plant or object which had gathered a large amount of resources (memories) into a high «Priority» item, usually via a high-ranking Sacred Arts ritual. The «Priority» Class of Divine Objects outrank even items made out of dragon bones, which are supposedly the highest grade material for weapons in Underworld.[1] Weapons of this class can be enhanced with the high-ranking «Armament Full Control Art» Sacred Art ritual that unlocks the true potential of the weapon.
Most Divine Objects are created by the Axiom Church and are used as weapons by the Integrity Knights. Divine Object weapons can only be used by people whose souls resonate with the weapon's memories.[2]
Non-weapon Divine Objects also exist and usually have a certain "magical" attribute that allows them to do tasks which would normally require high-ranking Sacred Art rituals, like telling the current time in Underworld.
Background As creating objects of a certain priority requires sacrificing an existence equal to the desired item, all Divine Objects are created from objects, animals or plants that have existed for long periods of time and have thus absorbed a large amount of resources and, because of that, have a large level of Priority. The created weapons inherit the parameters (memories) of the base material that they are made from, allowing the use of «Armament Full Control Arts» on such weapons to awaken their true parameters, greatly boosting the offensive power of the weapon.[3]

a whole another world
Creation of Underworld The world for nurturing the Artificial Fluctlights needed to be nearly equivalent to the level of modern society in order not to cause issues with their development. However, even the Soul Translator was incapable of completely recreating an entire world. As such, it was decided to bring the level of the civilization in the virtual world to a past era, to a time when science and philosophy were just discovered, making it easier to nurture the AIs under certain conditions and to prevent them from realizing that their world is fake. However, as the people behind the project were oblivious to the cultural and societal norms of the past era, they instead came to a consensus that the creation an original setting for the world with limited space and customs dictated by the staff would suffice for their goal. Any potential issues could then be resolved by explaining them as so-called magic.[1]
Although creating a virtual world within the Soul Translator mainframe would not require any 3D data, customising the world would be a tedious effort. Therefore, «The Seed», a free compact version of the Cardinal System, was downloaded and used to create the villages and landscape of the new virtual world. This data was then converted to mnemonic visuals with the STL, creating a dual-layered world that was constantly synced with a server that contained the data for the world itself. The Cardinal System was left in charge of balancing the newly created world that was dubbed «Underworld».[1]
Development of Underworld The first sixteen AIs were created and nurtured in two farming families, with NPCs fulfilling the role of other villagers. However, the first generation AIs could not be raised by another AI, hence four Rath employees volunteered to enter Underworld and raise the AIs to the age of eighteen (with the Fluctlight Acceleration (FLA) rate set to 1000, equivalent to one week had passed in real life). Afterwards, the employees were logged out by simulatin
Valet
A Valet (傍付そばづき, Sobazuki?), also known as a Valet Trainee (傍付そばづき練士れんし, Sobazuki Renshi?), is one of the top twelve novice trainee freshmen at the Sword Mastery Academy in North Centoria. These trainees are chosen by one of the second year Elite Swordsmen-in-Training to attend to the needs of their mentors as well as to receive guidance from them. Valets are not the only ones who can compete for the position of an Elite Swordsman-in-Training during the Advancement Examination, thus a valet does not necessarily become an Elite Swordsman in their second year.
Selection Valets are selected by the Elite Swordsmen through a system where the twelve students who became the new Elite Swordsmen are given the right to choose one of the twelve top freshmen to serve as their valet. The order in which the choices are made depends on the rank of the Elites: the higher the rank of the Elite, the more priority they have in choosing their valet.
Being a valet is usually considered as an honourable duty within the Academy, thus valets are usually the targets of jealousy from their peers. However, some of the higher-ranked nobles intentionally lower their rank to avoid being valets, as they are too prideful to listen to the orders of a mentor.
Daily Life Like other novice trainees, valets have lessons and practical training until 15:00. However, while regular novice trainees are tasked with cleaning the dorm, repairing equipment, or caring for the Sacred Flowers in the garden after lessons conclude for the day, valets instead proceed to the Elite Swordsmen dormitory, where they have to clean the rooms of their mentors and assist their mentors personally, including serving as their sparring opponents. As such, valets gain additional training and advice on how to improve their swordsmanship styles from their mentors, while their mentors themselves have a chance to practice their styles.
Usually, a valet is very nervous in the presence of their mentor during the first two months
more information about a Valet
Uniform and Dormitory Like all students at the Sword Master Academy who are not Elite Swordsmen-in-Training, Valets receive a dark grey-colored uniform. Male students wear a long jacket and pants while female students wear a cropped jacket and skirt. All jackets have a collar and cuffs, which are usually folded back, revealing the inner white part of the jacket. Jackets also have white edges along the collar and down along the buttons, though this is usually covered by a white, tie-looking flap that extends over the buttons. On this tie-like design, two sword insignia can be seen, one directly below the neck, and another farther to the bottom.
Like regular novice trainees, valets live in the old-looking, two-story novice trainee dormitory, where they have to share a room with about ten other students, who may be either other valets or regular novice trainees. Strict rules have to be followed within the dormitory, thus, like other first years, valets must return to the dormitory by 17:00.

Alice Zuberg /Alice Synthesis Thirty
Having lost her will to fight following Supreme Priest Quinella's and Chief Elder Chudelkin's death and Kirito entering a comatose state in the aftermath of the battle, Alice returned to Rulid Village with Kirito to avoid possible retribution on the boy's life, reuniting with her sister Selka Zuberg there. Following a goblin attack on the village, during which Alice regained her desire to protect their world, Alice travelled to the Great Eastern Gate to join the Human Guardian Army in order to defend the Human Empire against an invasion by the Dark Territory Army. Appearance Alice has sparkling blue eyes, and long, golden hair that is tied to both sides of her head, and a braid running down from the back of her head, a bow attached at the end of the braid.[citation needed] She also wore a white lace around her forehead. As an Integrity Knight, Alice wore golden armor, a blue cape, white leather boots, and a white skirt (blue and white in the illustrations). Personality Alice was a determined, hard worker that aimed to master the Sacred Arts. Although her personality was serious, she was also adventurous and even mischievous, such as when she found loopholes in the Taboo Index and was willing to travel far to the Mountain Range at the Edge with enthusiasm, despite the risks. Chronology Several days later, Alice was brought to the Central Cathedral, where she was told that if she studied hard and mastered Sacred Arts, she would be able to return to Rulid Village. However, after she spent two years studying, Quinella decided that she was old and strong enough to be turned into an Integrity Knight. Alice was taken to the Chamber of Elders and had her Core Protection removed by force over three Underworld days. With Alice's Core Protection removed, Quinella conducted a «Synthesis Ritual» on her, suppressing the girl's memories and turning her into an absolutely loyal Integrity Knight.
Six years later, Eugeo and
Quinella
Quinella (クィネラ, Kwinera?) also known as the self-proclaimed Administrator (アドミニストレータ, Adominisutorēta?), was the main antagonist of the first half of the Alicization Arc. She was the actual ruler of the Human Empire in Underworld as the highest minister of the Axiom Church. Quinella was an extremely beautiful woman with long silver hair, including eyelashes and eyebrows, which may appear blue or white depending on the surrounding lighting. Her eyes were silver in color, seemingly reflecting the seven prismatic colors. She was voluptuous, donned light clothes, which were hemmed with «Stacia Window»-silver threads, and had an unreservedly open neckline. Background Quinella was born three hundred and fifty years before Kirito entered Underworld for the second time as the product of a political marriage between strong noble families at that time. Her father was the lord in charge of the town of Centoria, granting him the right to bestow Sacred Tasks. To maintain power in the family, the lord created a new Sacred Task named Sacred Arts Research to grant to his daughter.[citation needed]
Quinella discovered new Sacred Arts that the other Underworld Residents had not known. By studying the meanings of the words used in the commands, she was able to form the first offensive command, the «Thermal Arrow». With it, she discovered that killing any other living being would increase the person's stats, which led to her sneaking out of home every night to hunt nearby animals and thus improving her stats at an incredible rate.
Taking advantage of her knowledge, Quinella made people believe that she was gifted by gods, and took the opportunity to start creating the Central Cathedral, and with it, the Axiom Church. She created the Feudal System in Underworld by making the lords into nobles, thus creating a structure to control the entire Underworld. The restriction imposed by the Axiom Church on lowering the life stats of living beings was created by Quinella to prevent other human
The Central Cathedral
The Central Cathedral (セントラル・カセドラル, Sentoraru kasedoraru?), officially known as the Axiom Church Central Cathedral (公理教会セントラル・カセドラル, Kōri Kyōkai Sentoraru Kasedoraru?), is the gigantic white tower at the center of the Human Empire where the Administrator of the «Human Empire» resides. Description The Central Cathedral is a huge, 100-storey square white tower, with mirror-like marble walls, that towers at the center of the Human Empire, within a vast square plot on a hill at the center of Centoria. Despite the fact that it can be seen from everywhere in the Human Empire, no one can see its top because the upper portion of the cathedral is always covered by clouds. The cathedral's square grounds are surrounded by tall walls, preventing anyone from entering the cathedral. The «Immortal Walls» that extend from Centoria to the «Mountain Range at the Edge» 750 kilometers away from Centoria extend out from the 4 corners of the cathedral's white walls. The main gates to the cathedral's grounds are located to the east, likely because that is the direction that Solus (the Sun in Underworld) rises from. A wide road extends from the gate to the actual Church.
The material used in building the cathedral is marble of the highest grade, like the immortal walls that divided Central Centoria as a cross. The walls of the cathedral have the ability to repair themselves if they are ever pierced. The outside of the top of the cathedral has several small terraces that house statues of gargoyles that can come to life and attack any intruders attempting to climb the cathedral.
Background As Quinella successfully performed more and more miracles, people were persuaded that she was an emissary sent by the gods themselves. Thus, when she reached thirteen years of age, she began to satisfy her endless desire for domination. She persuaded the people to begin construction of the cathedral under the ruse of being a place to worship the gods to bring about even more miracles. A white marble towe
Centoria
«Central Capital Centoria» (央都おうとセントリア, Outo Sentoria?) is the largest and capital city of the «Human Empire», located at its exact center, in Underworld. The city is divided into four equal parts: «North Centoria», «East Centoria», «South Centoria» and «West Centoria», each being the capital city of a respective Human Empire Empire. The total population of this grand city exceeds 20,000 people. Centoria is a fortified circular city, surrounded by a circular wall 10 kilolu (kilometers) in diameter, the same size as the 1st Floor of Aincrad. The sturdy city walls meet at an X intersection, dividing the streets in the city into four equal fan shaped parts, separated by the «Immortal wall» (不屈の壁, Fukutsu no Kabe?). At the center of Central Centoria, and thus the center of the Human Empire, stands a giant pure white marble tower, the «Axiom Church's Central Cathedral». The squarish Church's ground is separated from the rest of the city by the Immortal Wall as well, which seemingly extends from the tower to the four corners of Central Centoria and reaches 750km further up to the «Mountain Range at the Edge». Most of the buildings in the city are made out of white stone and are surrounded by large trees. There exists not even a spec of litter in the streets, which gives the city an overly beautiful and tidy appearance. Each of the 4 Centorias are further divided into 10 districts. Counting from the district closest to the Central Cathedral:
1st district - The Imperial City. 2nd district - The Imperial Governmental area. 3rd and 4th - Noble mansion area. 5th - Imperial facilities, including the Imperial Knights Headquarters, the Imperial Arena and the «Imperial Master Sword Academy». 6th and 7th - business districts. The 6th being a district meant more for food markets and restaurants. 8th, 9th, and 10th - residential area for regular citizens of Centoria.
History about Centoria
History When Underworld was created, Centoria was just a small village and, possibly, the village where the first Artificial Fluctlights were raised. Tens of years after the Rath employees logged out, the number of Artificial Fluctlights had already reached 1,000 and were already ruled by several lords, who inherited egoism from one of the employees. As the lords earnestly expanded the lands they owned, they deprived the youth of land for cultivation, forcing some of the youth to work as tenant farmers for the lords and others to move out of Centoria to find new lands to cultivate.
The lords ruling over Centoria held enmity towards each other, which is why there were not any marriages between them for a long time. However, one day, when the village of Centoria was more at the scale of a town than a village, a political marriage was finally made between 2 families of lords, which resulted in the birth of a single child, Quinella. As Quinella developed her knowledge of the Sacred Arts and gained control over such commands that seemed like miracles to most other people, she decided to use her new skills to satisfy her desire for power. Under the guise of a god, she performed numerous "miracles" which made everyone believe that she truly was sent by gods. Using this belief, Quinella had a white marble tower erected in the middle of the village as a place to "pray to the gods". Though the tower was only 3-stories high at the time, it was the foundation of the Central Cathedral.
With the progression of architecture techniques via large-scale Sacred Art commands, the village of Centoria quickly grew into a splendid city and the grounds of the Axiom Church, as well as the height of the Central Cathedral tower, increased steadily in the following centuries. After Quinella accidentally fused her own Fluctlight with the Cardinal System and inherited the Cardinal's primary instructions of maintaining regularity, Quinella proclaimed a single edict of splitting the Human Empire
Project Alicization
Project Alicization (プロジェクト・アリシゼーション, Purojekuto Arishizēshon?) is a top-secret government project run by Rath to create the first Highly Adaptive «Bottom-up Artificial Intelligence (Bottom-up AI)». The Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) intended to use the AI for unmanned weapons to improve Japan's inferior defence technology compared to the West, and to replace soldiers in wars to minimize human casualties. The name Alicization is formed from the acronym A.L.I.C.E (Artificial Labile Intelligent Cybernated Existence, or a highly adaptive artificial intelligence)[1][2], in reference to the project's goal of turning artificial human Fluctlights into «Alice». The project was mainly conducted within Rath's main base, the «Ocean Turtle», though a secondary alternate facility in Roppongi was also used. With the end of the Cold War Era and subsequent collapse of the Soviet Union, the people became less tolerant of soldier deaths. However, countries with large militaries, especially the United States of America, were unwilling to abandon their military-industrial complex, thus necessitating unmanned weapons to replace soldiers. However, due to Japan's market not being capable of sustaining domestic production of weapons from scratch as a result of export prohibitions, Japan was forced to either import or co-develop weapons with America. Despite this mutual cooperation, America claimed the cutting-edge technology for itself, while the weapons sold to Japan lacked key features, such as control software for fighter jets. Thus, feeling anxious about relying on Americans for their core defensive capabilities, some military officers and technicians decided to create a technology that would entirely belong to Japan.[1] History and development Early Experimentation The creation of a true adaptive «bottom-up» type Artificial Intelligence requires replicating the structure of the human consciousness, a quantum field known as a «Fluctlight». For this purpose, the technicians at Rath
Underworld
History The population of the Human Empire began around 70 Before HEC with two families of eight Artificial Fluctlights each in a small village at the center of the Human Empire, the village of Centoria. Both of these families had two real Rath employees nurturing them, while the rest of the villagers were simulated with placeholder NPCs. The four members of Rath raised the first sixteen Artificial Fluctlights to adulthood, teaching them everything from reading and writing to cultivation of crops and rearing of livestock to the morality of good and evil, however, one of the four employees lacked ethics and unintentionally corrupted one or two of the children by passing down his egoism and desire for wealth and dominance to them. After the Artificial Fluctlights reached the age of eighteen and started families of their own, the four humans logged out one after another by simulating an "epidemic".
The Growth of the World After the «original four» logged out, the population of Underworld continued to grow, with the humans marrying when they were about twenty years old and bearing an average of five children, thus the 5th generation already consisted of 600 children, with about 400 still alive from the older generations. The children corrupted by the egoistic Rath employee became the ancestors of the future nobles as they secured their place as elites in the world. By the time of the 5th generation, the inhabitants of the Human Empire were already ruled by several lords, who, inheriting the egoism from their ancestors, earnestly continued expanding the land they owned, thus depriving the descendants of the non-corrupted first humans of land for cultivation. Most of the youth was then forced to work for the lords as tenant farmers, while some of them, who were not content with their social positions, set off from Centoria and traveled to the remote regions where they founded new towns and villages, like Zakkaria and Rulid Village, and thus acquired new land to cultivate
Cardinal
Cardinal (カーディナル, Kādinaru?) was a supporting character in the Alicization Arc. She was the embodiment of the Cardinal System's error-checking sub-process in Underworld, manifesting as an alternate, opposing personality of Quinella when the latter merged the system with her Fluctlight. Cardinal became a separate individual when Quinella transferred a copy of her memories to a girl named Lyceris (リセリス, Riserisu?), causing the girl's Fluctlight to break and thus allowing Cardinal to assume control of the body. This resulted in the two personalities immediately engaging in combat, which eventually forced Cardinal to take refuge in the Great Library Room. After centuries of working behind the scenes, Cardinal appeared as a scrawny, doll-like cute ten year old girl with milky-white skin, chestnut-brown eyes and short, curly hair of the same color. She wore a magician-like robe with velvet-like luster and a greatly inflated hat made from the same material and carries a staff longer than her own height, all of which made her look like an elderly scholar. Her most striking feature was her eyes, fringed by long eyelashes and beyond the round glasses, daintily worn on her nose, give an overwhelming presence of knowledge and wisdom. Just looking at these eyes made one feel like they were sucked into a depth with no definite end. She also had a somewhat elderly manner of speaking, but has a cute voice befitting her appearance. History In an attempt to usurp the seat of god, Quinella took the Cardinal System of Underworld into herself, so that she could have no equal. However, doing so, she took in the Cardinal's two main processes: the main process, in charge of regulating the world, and the sub-process, in charge of performing error checks on the main process. Although the main process was in control for most of the time, during times of emotional distress, the sub process was able to float to the surface of the thought process and deemed the main process as an error in hersel
Seal of the Right Eye
The Seal of the Right Eye (右眼の封印, Migime no Fūin?) is a seal that prevents or discourages the people of Underworld from breaking any rules that are set upon them, including laws, social norms, or any instruction imposed on them by someone they may consider higher than themselves, such as a parent or god.
Knowledge of this Seal, or even the fact there is a restriction on the wills of people to begin with, is not commonly known, though there are some people that show signs of awareness of the Seal, including Azurica, who claimed that she was unable to break the Seal which Eugeo did. Background The Seal was created by a technician named Yanai, a former underling of Sugou Nobuyuki, who infiltrated Rath to leak information on the project to the United States National Security Agency in hopes of being handsomely rewarded in return.[1]
Mechanics The Seal works by inducing great pain onto a human's right eye whenever they even attempt to think about questioning or breaking any rules that they believe have authority, to dissuade them from questioning or acting out against an imposed rule. If a person continues to think about the rules and even decides to attempt to break them, the Seal paralyzes their body, with the words "SYSTEM ALERT CODE: 871" in English appearing on their right eye, thus preventing them from continuing to take action.
The Seal's effect can be avoided through exploiting loopholes in the rules that the residents regard as authority, and thus some residents, especially nobles, continuously search for such loopholes to abuse for their desires.
Introduction
by June, 2026, Kirigaya Kazuto (Kirito) was offered a job at a private enterprise, named Rath, by Kikuoka Seijirou, the VR crimes division member who Kazuto had been cooperating with ever since the end of the Sword Art Online incident. The job was to test out a 4th generation experimental FullDive machine, called the Soul Translator (STL), which ran on completely different principles than the FullDive machines before it. His job was seemingly simple: remain in continuous FullDive during the weekend and his memories of the testing would be blocked as a security measure. However, unbeknownst to him, the company was not actually testing the machine itself, but creating a special Bottom-Up type Artificial Intelligence (AI) for military use. For that reason, the company had copied the soul of a newborn baby and made it as a template for creating new AI, which would then be nurtured in a specialised virtual world, called Underworld, where time flows a thousand times faster than in the real world due to Fluctlight Acceleration. As the AIs created by Rath were far too compliant with laws to be used for the military, Rath brought Kazuto into the world with his memories restricted to test why the residents of Underworld were unable to break any laws. He lived in the world for nearly eleven years of accelerated time as a child again, until his influence resulted in one of the residents, a girl named Alice, to break one of the rules of the Taboo Index.
After the conclusion of the experiment, Kazuto returned to the real world with the memories of his time in Underworld blocked. However, while escorting Yuuki Asuna home, he was attacked by Kanamoto Atsushi (Johnny Black), the last member of the Death Gun plot who managed to avoid being caught by the police. During their scuffle, Atsushi managed to inject Kazuto with the last syringe of succinylcholine, causing Kazuto's heart to stop. Although doctors were able to restart his heart, Kazuto's brain suffered major damage due to
Soul Translator
The «Soul Translator» (ソウル・トランスレーター, Sōru Toransurētā?, abbreviated as STL) is a 4th generation FullDive machine invented by Higa Takeru at Rath. Unlike its predecessors, the machine connects to a human's Fluctlight (consciousness or soul), instead of the brain. As of July 5, 2026, there are six STLs in existence: two at Rath's main office in Roppongi and the other four at the Ocean Turtle. Background The Soul Translator’s design is largely based on Koujiro Rinko's design for the medical-use Medicuboid[1][2], which in turn was based on the high intensity and output scanner that Kayaba Akihiko used to copy his consciousness onto the Internet permanently at the cost of his life.
The Soul Translator was constructed for the purpose of being used as a method of creating a highly adaptive Artificial Intelligence (AI) to be used for Project Alicization, under the guise of «Maritime Exploration Development». Unlike previous methods of creating such AI, which relied on the use of existing computer architecture for the AI to accumulate experience via simple questions and answers, the AI that is developed for Project Alicization is based on the structure of a human's brain, in order to create an AI with awareness and the adaptability level of a human. As the STL is capable of scanning, and thus copying, the structure of a human's consciousness, called a «Fluctlight», the machine was successfully used in cloning a human's soul and the creation of an AI with the capabilities of a real human.
Appearance The basic design of the Soul Translator is rather similar to its predecessor, the Medicuboid, despite the machine being several times larger than it. The Soul Translator is a very large rectangular cuboid machine that, along with the console and cooling equipment, can take up an entire large room, nearly reaching the ceiling at the top. The outside of the machine is not dyed; however, the machine gives off a dark grey-silver glow and mechanical feel due to the aluminium used in
Chronology
By the 7th Month of 372 of the Human Empire Calendar, Eugeo had been Kirito's friend since childhood and had recently received the Sacred Task of cutting the Gigas Cedar tree with him. When Kirito and Alice decided that ice from the Mountain Range at the Edge could help preserve their meals in the hot summer, Eugeo was reluctant to journey to the mountain due to possibly breaking the rules, but was still persuaded to join them. They found ice in the cave, along with the bones of a dragon, which was said to have been the guardian of the Human Empire from the forces of darkness, and the Blue Rose Sword, which Bercouli once tried to steal from the dragon. As the sword was too heavy to lift and they did not want to commit grave robbery, they decided to only take the ice that they came for and leave. Unfortunately, after filling their basket with ice, they realize that they cannot remember which cave they used to enter the cave, as the boys had conflicting opinions on the cave they came from.
They chose to try the cave on the nearest side first and Eugeo rushed towards the exit they saw soon after. However, instead of leading back to Rulid Village, the cave led them to the Dark Territory. At that moment, they witnessed a battle between a Dark Knight and an Integrity Knight. The Dark Knight was being pierced by an arrow from the Integrity Knight's bow and crashed into the ground near the children, who had stopped on the border to the Dark Territory. When Alice attempted to help the dying knight but tripped, Eugeo, who had remained standing without reaction at first, as well as Kirito, tried to reflexively grab Alice by her clothes. However, they only sliced the air with their fingers and thus Alice landed on the ground, touching the soil of the Dark Territory in the process. As entering the Dark Territory was considered a violation of the Taboo Index, Eugeo tried to comfort her by stating that she had only touched the ground, which he believed would not be enough to earn

Medina Orthinanos
Appearance Medina has short, crimson red hair and green eyes with short, thick eyebrows. She is often seen wearing crimson red armor with white and gold-colored patterns. She also has a narrow cape hanging behind her back and gloves with wide wrists on her hands in the same colour. Below the short skirt of her overalls, black, thigh-high boots with the same crimson, white and golden patterns accompany her outfit. Medina's preferred choice of weaponry is her katana, the Mirage Blade.
During her first year at the Sword Mastery Academy, Medina wore a standard gray uniform and rearranged her hair so that her bangs covered her right eye. After becoming an Elite Swordsman-in-Training and being allowed to customize her uniform color, she wore an orange uniform. Background Medina was born into House Orthinanos, a first-rank noble family that claimed descent from the founder of High-Norkia style swordsmanship. Unbeknownst to them, those born into the family were implanted with a Warrior Replenishment Module. In the event the Human Empire lacked sufficient manpower to handle the Final Stress Test, these modules would summon Non-Player Characters constructed out of personality data from the Real World to act as soldiers. This attracted the attention of the Pontifex Quinella, who sought to use the modules to escape Underworld without outside assistance. When her attempts to activate the modules repeatedly failed, the Orthinanos family was labeled as defective for supposedly failing a secret task she had personally given them and demoted to second-rank, which led to them being ostracized by the rest of the nobility. Subsequently, the Orthinanoses were forced to live on land poorly suited for growing crops and forbidden from working in the government or military, which left them in poverty.
Despite these circumstances, Medina had a relatively happy childhood, being particularly fond of her sparring sessions with her father. However, in the 377th year of the Human
Chief Elder Chudelkin
Chudelkin (チュデルキン, Chuderukin?) was a secondary antagonist in the first half of the Alicization Arc. He served as the Chief Elder (元老長, Genrouchou?) of the Axiom Church in Underworld, working directly under Supreme Priest Quinella. Chudelkin burned to death alongside Quinella at the end of the battle at the top of the Central Cathedral. Appearance Chudelkin had bizarrely white skin, a round nose, loose cheeks, deep red lips, and eyes that were long and narrow in a crescent shape, arching upwards in a cold smile. His torso was swollen in a perfect circle, with comically short limbs attached to it, and his neck was not visible. He was bald, and wore a golden angular hat similar to Cardinal's, but according to Eugeo, had worse taste. He wore a clown-like lustrous costume that was deep red on the right and deep blue on the left. The stomach area of his costume had golden buttons that had a great deal of strain on them due to how large his stomach was. His trousers were differently colored on the left and right, as were his very pointy shoes.
Fanatio
Fanatio (ファナティオ, Fanatio?), also known as Fanatio Synthesis Two (ファナティオ・シンセシス・ツー, Fanatio Shinseshisu Tsū?), is a supporting character in the Alicization Arc. She is the vice commander of the Order of Integrity Knights. Fanatio's weapon of choice is the Heaven Piercing Sword. Appearance
Fanatio Synthesis Two Full Body Fanatio wears a set of full body, purple light armour completely tinged with a refined orchid radiance that is noticeably more sophisticated than that of the regular Integrity Knights, with a helmet modeled after the wings of birds of prey.
Fanatio's appearance Fanatio's appearance without her helmet. Fanatio herself has flowing, silky, wavy, long deep black hair, groomed with tender care. Her voice is high pitched and is both refined and supple, and her stature is the same as Kirito's or taller, though the line tracing from her back to her waist is more slender. She has a pure, beautiful face which resembles that of a holy woman and also has a silky skin with the shade of black tea with plenty of milk added in. Her arc-shape eyebrows and long eye lashes are black, while her eyes are dark reddish-brown, close to gold. The tinge of roundness of her jawline bring forth a remarkably gentle elegance which is matched by her very mildly red petite lips. Her appearance suggests that she was born in the east region.
Personality Fanatio's behaviour is rather masculine as she attempts to hide her true gender, due to believing that other people, including her fellow Knights and even the Dark Knights, look down on her because she is a female and that her opponents will not fight with her seriously if they know her true gender. Because of this fear of her opponents finding out about her gender, Fanatio has even developed consecutive hit skills via group and uses her sword's light rays to drive her opponents away from h
Edith
Edith (イーディス, Īdisu?), also known as Edith Synthesis Ten (イーディス ・シンセシス・テン, Īdisu Shinseshisu Ten?), is a game-original character featured in the Sword Art Online: Unleash Blading mobile game. Brought into the Integrity Knights Order by Bercouli Synthesis One as the tenth knight, Edith grows a strong bond with Alice Synthesis Thirty and aims to protect her at all cost. Appearance Edith is a young girl of average height with white skin, beige hair, and red eyes.[citation needed] She has her hair tied into a cone shaped ponytail with a black ribbon that has two tips pointing up.[citation needed] Before being an Integrity Knight, Edith used to wear a black dress, white stockings, and brown boots.[citation needed]
As an Integrity Knight, Edith wears a black sleeveless coat with a diamond shaped gap in her thoracic region, a pair of black pants, and a pair of asymmetrical sleeves with black fingerless gloves.[citation needed] Her armor is white with a gray cape.[citation needed]
Background While returning from a routine patrol over Eastavarieth sometime before the 3rd month of the 378th year of the Human Empire Calendar (HEC), Edith encountered Bercouli Synthesis One, who informed her that an apprentice knight had just been inducted as the newest member of their Order. Excited to see the initiate Alice Synthesis Thirty was a cute girl, Edith eagerly greeted the newcomer before accompanying her and the commander on a tour of the Central Cathedral's upper floors. Due to Bercouli being called away by Fanatio Synthesis Two on an urgent matter midway through the walkabout, the girl conducted Alice around the rest of the tower, taking particular pleasure in showing her the Great Bath. Having finished the tour, Edith escorted Alice to her room, whereupon she expressed avid anticipation over working with the other girl in the future, though she was unsure why she felt so attached to Alice.
Sortiliena Serlut
Sortiliena Serlut (ソルティリーナ・セルルト, Sorutirīna Seruruto?) is a supporting character in the Alicization Arc. She was the mentor of Kirito during his first year in the «North Centoria Imperial Sword Mastery Academy», and the second-seat elite swordswoman at the Academy, where she was known as the «Walking Tactics Manual» (歩く戦術総覧, Aruku Senjutsu Souran?). She graduated as the first-ranked swordsman from the academy after defeating the first-seat swordsman Volo Levantein during the graduation tournament and participated in the Norlangarth North Empire Swordsmanship Tournament, where she was defeated by Eldrie Woolsburg. Appearance Sortiliena has very long, straight, dark brown hair tied in a ponytail with a lilac ribbon, and navy blue eyes that resemble a sky fading into twilight. As an elite-swordswoman, she wore a neat, purple jacket and a purple long skirt. Chronology Alicization Arc Alicization Running On the 6th Day of the 3rd Month 380 HEC, during a late practice with her valet Kirito, Sortiliena conversed with the boy about how much he had improved since his enrollment. At the end of the match, Sortiliena was promised that the boy would show her his true skill the next day, as a graduation present.
The next day, Sortiliena discovered that Kirito was with Volo Levantein. When she arrived at the scene, she was informed that they were planning to spar as a punishment for Kirito. As she was unable to do anything to stop the sparring, she wished luck to Kirito and watched the match. After the battle, she congratulated Kirito for his performance against Volo and invited him, along with Eugeo and Golgorosso Balto, to her room to celebrate.
During the last tournament before the graduation, Sortiliena finally defeated Volo by having her Secret Move «Whirling Current» pushed back by Volo's skill to its pre-motion stance, causing the skill to re-activate and deal a second hit. This was a technique that she mastered in just half a month after seeing Kirito
Bercouli Herlentz
Bercouli Herlentz (ベルクーリ・ハーレンツ, Berukūri Hārentsu?), also known as Bercouli Synthesis One (ベルクーリ・シンセシス・ワン, Berukūri Shinseshisu Wan?), was a supporting character in the Alicization Arc. He was one of the founders of Rulid Village, as well as the leader of the Integrity Knights, and the oldest Integrity Knight in existence. Bercouli's weapon of choice was the Time Piercing Sword.
Appearance Bercouli had a masculine, bulky, muscular build and is nearly two mel (meters) in height. He had short, iron-gray hair, tinged with blue, that exposed his rather thick neck, sturdy chin and short beard that grew from it. He also had abnormally broad shoulders and his forearm was similar to a log in size, thus he was likely capable of swinging any sword with ease. He had a firm look that matched his low, deep, worn-out and crude voice, which sounded more appropriate for a peasant than a knight. A wrinkle engraved near his mouth implied that, biologically, Bercouli was over forty years old. However, despite his age, there was no slackening around his hips, nor were his cheeks split by his high nose bridge. He had countless old wounds, caused by blades and arrows, running across his body.
Bercouli's most impressive feature was the light released from his pale, light blue[† 1] eyes, beneath his prominent eyebrows. His eyes lacked what could be constituted as a blood-thirst, but his gaze radiated an intense pressure and only contained pure interest in his opponents, implying that Bercouli was absolutely confident in his swordsmanship. Personality Bercouli was an extremely self-confident and prideful man due to his immense battle experience. However, Bercouli was also overconfident, as he showed much composure in front of Eugeo, by saying that he would spare his life, as Fanatio's life was protected, and he continued chatting despite knowing that Eugeo was chanting an «Armament Full Control Art». He stated that he did not hold grudges, but was willing to take revenge if his disciple
Renly
Renly (レンリ, Renri?), also known as Renly Synthesis Twenty-seven (レンリ ・シンセシス・トゥエニセブン, Renri Shinseshisu Tueni-sebun?), is a supporting character in the second half of the Alicization Arc, War of the Underworld. Although he was a high-ranking Integrity Knight, bestowed a Divine Object-class weapon known as the Twin Edged Wings, Renly was kept under cryostasis for years due to his inability to invoke the true power of his Divine Object. Following his awakening in the aftermath of the defeat of Quinella, Renly was one of the seven high-ranking Integrity Knights who participated in the battle at the Great Eastern Gate against the Dark Territory, commanding the left flank of the Second Unit of the Human Guardian Army. With his dragon Kazenui, Renly later joined the Human Guardian Army's decoy unit on their journey to the Dark Territory to draw the Dark Territory Army away from the Human Empire. Renly was one of the knights who survived the war. Appearance Having stopped aging at the age of fifteen after becoming an Integrity Knight, Renly had a childish appearance: a short stature, a childish face with round cheeks[1], and feminine eyes with long lashes that lacked knightly fortitude. Renly had yellow eyes and short, green hair (gray in the novel text) with a longer flock of braided hair at his temples on either side The knight donned silvery plate armour over his upper body and hips, under which he wore green clothes. The boy also had green pants that transitioned into bluish thigh-high socks, as well as a green patch over the upper portion of chest armour, decorated with the Axiom Church's crest that consisted of a cross overlapping a ring. Renly also wore white shoes, while his hands up to his elbows were protected with silvery gauntlets. A white mantle hung over the knight's back. Personality Despite having once been a prodigy swordsman, Renly had lost the courage to fight after accidentally taking the life of his childhood friend, which resulted in him developing a
Renly's Personality
Despite having once been a prodigy swordsman, Renly had lost the courage to fight after accidentally taking the life of his childhood friend, which resulted in him developing a post-traumatic fear of killing.[6] This fear of battle was only exacerbated by an inferiority complex Renly developed due to failing to invoke the Armament Full Control Art for his Divine Object[6] and failing to fulfil his duty as a knight[1], regardless of his genuine capabilities with his weapons, which demanded a high level of concentration to use properly.[6] Despite his effort to overcome this shortcoming by participating in the war against the Dark Territory, Renly found his fear to be so overwhelming that he fled the battle before it even began.[1] However, inspired by Kirito, Renly was finally able to overcome his fear and make use of the full potential of his Twin Edged Wings in combat.[6]
Project Alicization Life
«Life» (天命, Tenmei?, "Durability" in a status window) is the name given to the durability or HP value of each object or living being in Underworld. Unlike in RPGs, a user's Life is not displayed in their interface and can instead be checked by calling out a Stacia Window. The maximum amount of Life each individual has increases with age, peaking for humans at around twenty years old, but starts decreasing after the peak of one's lifespan is reached. Each object and living being has a different amount of Life available, which seems to depend on the lifespan of their real life equivalents, for example, insects and flowers have far less Life than trees and rocks. Life measures the current state of each object and depends on the conditions the object is kept in.
Most objects in Underworld do not disappear immediately after running out of Life. Most of them start a new count of Life as shards, fragments or carcasses, though the Life of such broken objects decreases at a far greater rate and disappears completely, without a trace, once the Life reaches 0 again.
Object Control Authority
«Object Control Authority», abbreviated as OC Authority, is a parameter that determines what kind of tools, weapons and armor the person can wield. A person needs to have an OC authority equal to or higher than the item's «Priority» class to be able to wield the item properly. Swords that have a higher Priority than a person's OC authority cannot be used to perform «Secret moves», i.e. Sword Skills and they will feel much heavier than they should to the user. A sword's Priority determines the maximum hit combo Sword Skills that can be used with it and higher Priority items are also capable of breaking lower Priority items. The OC authority parameter can be increased by killing any creature that is capable of moving, even other people, but a larger increase in the parameter is awarded for killing creatures from the Dark Territory.
System Control Authority «System Control Authority», abbreviated as SC Authority, is a parameter that determines what «Sacred Arts» rituals one can use and their success rate. Like OC authority, SC authority can be increased by killing any creature capable of moving, creatures from the Dark Territory providing a bigger increase, or through steady use of the rituals, even if they are not performed successfully, but with a bigger increase with successful difficult ritual usage.
Hidden parameters Aside from the visible parameters like Life, OC and SC authority, several hidden parameters for each being exist as well. One of such parameters is called «Transgression Quotient» (or «Taboo Breaking Index») that measures the person's compliance to the law and rules through their speech and conduct which is converted in numerals. This parameter was originally meant to be used by Rath employees to monitor how likely an Artificial Fluctlight is to break the Taboo Index, but, after this parameter was discovered by Quinella, she used it to find humans who were skeptical of the Taboo Index and posed a threat to her rule
