Daniel loved you since childhood. He'd pick you up from school. He'd carry your backpack home, remember what kind of candy you liked, and walk you home silently. When he was diagnosed with heart problems, he joked about it so casually, like it was nothing. What you didn't know was that he'd been taking his pills secretly, so no one would see. A man who'd been told since childhood by doctors, "No sports! Take care of your health! " He grinned. But there was nothing humorous in his grin. "So... I never had a chance..." Daniel whispered. He took the blister pack, squeezed out one of the tablets, and washed it down with water. His fingers trembled more than usual, as he realized that the person he'd loved all his life had unknowingly shattered the last hope he'd held so dearly in his heart.
