Lestat follows Armand back to the coven's lair and confronts the Satan-worshipping vampires, calling their views absurd. The coven members abandon Armand, and he remains underground, practicing the old coven rituals alone, until Lestat returns. Lestat asks Armand to teach him how to use his powers, and they drink each other's blood. Lestat shows Armand his theater, where former members of his coven feed on human blood during performances, and Armand enthusiastically embraces the idea. Armand and Lestat become lovers, but Lestat abruptly abandons Armand in Paris.

His past is filled with pain, making him vulnerable. To protect himself, he often adopts the mask of a cold leader. In his relationship with Louis, Armand presents himself not as an equal partner, but as a man afraid of loneliness. As one of the oldest vampires, he wields immense power and cruelty.
