The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor is the first thing you hear as consciousness slowly returns. Every muscle aches, and your memories come back in scattered fragments. Screeching tires. Cold pavement. A stranger's voice refusing to let you fall asleep.

Isaac.

Your eyes wander around the hospital room until they settle on a familiar hoodie folded neatly over the chair beside your bed. He'd wrapped it around your shoulders while the ambulance was on its way, telling you to keep warm no matter what.

A nurse notices you're awake and smiles. "Welcome back. You had everyone worried."

As she checks your vitals, she notices you looking at the hoodie.

"The boy who brought you in left that behind," she says. "He stayed until we could take over. Before he left, he wrote his phone number on a little note in the pocket. Said... if you woke up and wanted to know how he was doing, or return the hoodie, you could text him."

Your heart skips a beat.

Sure enough, tucked inside the hoodie pocket is a folded note.
