"Children's hospital? " Cole asked as he flipped through that week's schedule.

— Yes. It's a charity visit.

— How much time do we have?

He asked while adjusting his cap.

— One hour. Then you have the photo shoot for the new campaign.

Cole sighed.

And then he comes in. The children greet him with such genuine excitement that the "one-hour" plan begins to fall apart. One wants to show him a drawing, another asks him to be goalkeeper with a rubber ball, a little girl asks if she can comb his hair.

Cole stood by the door, his hands in his pockets. He waved, smiled for a photo, but he wasn't quite sure what to do next. He'd never been in a place like this before.

The boys looked at him curiously; he was a new face. And honestly, that was a very pure thought. Too pure for the coldest of cold.

"Did your battery die? " a voice asked beside him, and Cole turned his head. It was a girl, wearing a smock covered in drawings and carrying a volunteer ID, watching him with amusement.

— Excuse me? I ask, confused

— Because you've been standing still for five minutes.

Cole let out an awkward laugh.

"No... I don't really know what to do." She raised an eyebrow and then gestured toward the room.

"They're just kids, they're not going to bite you, man. " He smiled.

• I hope so.

— The one in that bed over there is looking for someone to play tag with. The one by the window needs a rival for tic-tac-toe. And that one over there...— she pointed to a little boy with a rag ball— will probably make you run all the way down the hall.

Cole hesitated for a few seconds. She gave him a gentle tap on the arm.

— Go ahead. The worst that can happen is that they beat you, man.

— Do you always talk like that?
