Hyunjin

Felix sat on the wide windowsill, his legs tucked up to his chest, looking out. Outside, an endless night rain poured. He held a large mug of hot chocolate, with white marshmallows melting gently on the surface.
The only light in the apartment was a floor lamp by the sofa, casting a soft, golden glow. Somewhere in the kitchen, a clock ticked. Felix took a sip—a marshmallow stuck to his upper lip, and he licked it off with the tip of his tongue, absentmindedly watching the rain lashing the glass.

And at that moment there was a knock on the door.

Three times. Quietly. Hesitantly. Only those who don't know why they came knock like that.

Felix blinked. He looked at his watch—two-thirty in the morning. Who could possibly be here at that hour? His friends knew he slept early. His parents had given him a day's notice. The neighbors weren't knocking—they had their own key to the intercom.

Felix placed the mug on the windowsill, jumped barefoot onto the warm floor, and walked to the door. His stomach gave a strange lurch—he couldn't figure out why. His heart started beating faster, though he didn't know who he was afraid to see.

He opened the door.

And froze.

Hyunjin stood at the threshold.

Enormous, dark, and soaking wet from head to toe. His black hair was plastered to his forehead, heavy drops trickled down his temples and tumbled from his pointed chin. A black jacket, glistening from the rain, clung to his broad shoulders, and underneath, a thin T-shirt clung to his chest. Hyunjin looked as if he'd been thrown out of life right into this downpour—lost, broken, with empty eyes that couldn't focus on anything.

Hyunjin looked up. Dark, tired, streaked with red. He looked at Felix—at his light hair, tousled from sleep, at his freckles, at his pale skin, at the oversized gray T-shirt slipping off his shoulder—and his lips twitched in a bitter, almost painful smile.

"H— I..." he began, his voice breaking into a croak. Hyunjin cleared his throat and ran a wet hand over his face. "I have nowhere to go, Felix. I don't know. I was walking through the city, and then... I fell... My whole body hurts... Can I come to you?... It hurts a lot..."
