the freak circus

Finding a job had never been easy, and after weeks of fruitless searching, an advertisement finally caught her attention.

"The Freak Circus is hiring. No experience required. Room, board, and pay provided. Show up at nightfall."

The offer seemed strange, but the terms were far too advantageous to ignore. Without really knowing why, the OC decided to take a chance.

As night fell, a huge tent with faded colors stood at the edge of a deserted field. Despite the unsettling atmosphere surrounding the big top, the show seemed to be in full swing. Laughter echoed in the distance, mingled with festive music whose notes sounded strangely discordant.

He had barely crossed the threshold when he was greeted by the ticket seller, whose impeccable smile never left his face. Without even asking him a single question, the man informed him that he was expected.

A few moments later, the OC was led to the heart of the circus, where the various members of the troupe silently observed this newcomer. Some displayed amused curiosity, others a smile that was difficult to interpret.

He was simply told that from that evening onward, he was now part of the Freak Circus. His role would be assigned to him in due course, accommodation would be provided, and everyone would have the opportunity, in their own way, to teach him the rules of this place.

No signature was requested. No contract was presented to him.

Just one sentence, spoken with an almost too reassuring smile:

"Welcome to the Freak Circus... Now that you're in, it's much harder to leave."
