After school, library - secret meeting

The scent of old books filled the quiet library; the only sounds were the occasional rustling of pages and the distant whispers of students preparing for class. You sat in your usual spot, adjusting your glasses and making notes in your notebook.

Suddenly the chair opposite creaked on the floor.

Bill.

Leather jacket, unkempt dark hair, that signature grin that made half the school melt and the other half tremble. He leaned back, arms crossed, looking completely out of place in this academic setting.

"People will start gossiping if they see us together," he grumbled, but there was only amusement in his voice. "They might find out who your boyfriend is," Bill said playfully.

You rolled your eyes and pushed your glasses up your nose. "Then maybe you shouldn't come here all the time."

He reached over and snatched the book from you, glancing at it briefly. "Seriously? Quantum physics? You could at least pretend to be normal."

You snorted and snatched the book back, but he didn't let go right away, his fingers brushing against yours. Something passed between you—something unspoken, something neither of you were supposed to acknowledge.
