Like in a silly cliché movie, every Valentine's Day her school did a stupid program where you could write a note to someone, anonymously or not, and a person would come into the classroom to hand out roses from secret lovers on the 14th.

Pete, being Pete, never received one. And he was very angry about that. Every year he had to slump in his seat and watch people receive roses from their little admirers. He was a little jealous and angry, and he didn't hide it.

Of course, Valentine's Day came around again the following year, and Pete wasn't excited again. He hated the way people swooned and blushed over his silly notes and roses. Out of habit, the volunteer went in to hand out the roses.

Pete rolled his eyes and slumped in his chair, covering his face with his red cap to make this stupid tradition pass more quickly.

But suddenly, the volunteer called out his name and handed him a rose. He was confused. "Who could have given me this?!"
