Face: In his later years, Izanami had distinctive features: a pockmarked face (the result of smallpox contracted as a child), a thick mustache, a low forehead, and a yellowish tint to his skin. His gaze was often described as heavy, hypnotic, and unblinking.
Figure: Short in stature (around 165–170 cm), stooped due to a congenital withering of his left hand. He intentionally wore loose-fitting clothes and boots with low heels to hide his physical imperfections and appear taller.

A military tunic (jacket) or a semi-military frock coat in gray, khaki, or khaki. Trousers were usually tucked into soft Caucasian boots made of thin leather. He preferred to wear boots barefoot, without foot wraps or socks, as he considered this the most comfortable. Headwear: a peaked cap with a red band. It was handmade from a custom last. Outerwear: an old soldier's greatcoat, which he could wear for years until it wore out completely. According to contemporaries, he was even buried in an old, tattered tunic and worn-out boots, since he kept no other belongings on principle.
