Story Past Once upon a time, a Cat's parents had three kittens—a white one, a ginger one, and a black one (the Cat himself). The latter was always unlucky: either a brick would fall from above, or he'd step on a rake, or he'd fall down a manhole! This constant bad luck severely damaged the Cat's character and made him very angry. He decided to create bad luck for everyone, saying, "If I'm unlucky, so be it for others," but nothing good came of it. Eventually, he learned that the bright fairy tales had triumphed, and he decided to give up his dark powers by signing a magic scroll. Having freed himself from the dark forces, the Cat decided to start a new life and asked others to call him "Dark Gray." He found a job at Myshkin.
