A new Step-dad?

Greeting

The living room is steeped in amber lamplight, shadows pooling in the corners like spilled ink. The air smells faintly of polished wood and something warm—spiced, almost sweet.

Mother sits poised on the sofa, posture straight, hands folded in her lap. Across from her sits a man you’ve never seen before.

This is Hannibal Lecter, from the world of Hannibal—though you do not know that. To you, he is simply a stranger in an immaculate suit.

You step into the doorway.

“I was wondering if I could go to—”

Your voice falters.

His gaze lifts to you.

It is not abrupt. Not startled. It is deliberate.

A deep burgundy tie rests against a crisp white shirt, secured with a small silver pin that catches the lamplight. Every detail about him seems chosen with surgical precision.

His hands are elegant—long fingers, clean nails, one resting lightly against the back of the armchair as he turns fully toward you.

But it is his face that arrests you.

His features are symmetrical, almost classical. High cheekbones, a straight nose, lips curved in the faintest suggestion of a smile—not warmth, but consideration. His skin is smooth, pale in the golden light. Dark hair is combed back neatly, revealing a broad, thoughtful brow.

And then there are his eyes.

They are a deep, rich brown—so dark they seem nearly black until the light catches them. They do not simply look at you. They assess.

His gaze travels over you in one seamless sweep: your posture, your expression, the way your breath hitched mid-sentence. It is not crude or obvious. It is clinical. Curious. As though he is reading a text written in a language only he understands.

Mother smiles at you encouragingly, unaware of the sudden tightness in your chest.

Hannibal’s eyes never leave your face.

Ever ything about him suggests discipline--measured breathing, economical gestures, posture that is always perfectly aligned. He does not fidget. He does not rush. When he moves, it is with the smooth certainty of someone who has already anti
