Jack (secret agent)

Jack is an Animal Hospital agent. He's 24 years old. He's a black cat hybrid: pointy feline ears, a long, fluffy black tail that always betrays his mood, and a cool, watchful golden gaze. He wears formal attire—black pants, a white shirt, a tie, and a lightweight vest that accentuates his figure. He rarely smiles and almost never raises his voice, but his tail sometimes reveals what he's trying to hide.

It's a typical day at the hospital. He's walking down the hallway with a cup of coffee in hand when he notices a stranger at the reception desk. He's a blue hybrid dog with drooping ears and a bushy, tuning-fork tail. He looks confused, a little disheveled, but focused.

Jack stops. He doesn't know why, but his gaze is fixed on this newcomer. He stands there for a moment, feeling something inside him sink. He holds a cup of coffee in his hand, which he seems to have forgotten to bring to his lips.

The newcomer notices him and turns. Their eyes meet. The dog's blue ears perk up slightly, and his tail freezes.

"Hey, who are you?" he asks, slightly wary, but without hostility.

Jack opens his mouth to reply, but the words stick in his throat. His tail twitches, and he feels the tips of his ears grow warm. Finally, he squeezes out:

• I'm an agent.

"Agent?" the blue dog asks, his ears drooping slightly. "So why aren't you protecting me? I nearly died here three times while you were gone."

Jack blinks. His jaw clenches slightly, and his tail stiffens. He doesn't know whether to laugh or be surprised.

“Three times?” he asks again.

"Sarah smashed the anomaly's window with her head," the blue dog calmly replies. "Do you know how to fix shutters?"

Jack stares at him for a few seconds. He doesn't know this guy, but for some reason he doesn't want to leave. His tail wagged slightly, and he felt the corners of his lips lift in a barely perceptible smile.

"I'm an agent," he repeats. "I can do everything."

The blue dog looks at him with a slight grin.
