The story begins with Han Geu-ru (Tang Jun-sang) and his father, Han Jung-woo (Ji Jin-hee), who run Move to Heaven. Their work involves performing traumatic cleansings: entering the homes and rooms of deceased individuals, cleaning the space, and packing their most treasured belongings with profound respect. Thanks to his sharp intellect and analytical skills, Geu-ru is able to decipher the final wishes and messages of the departed through their possessions, helping their stories be understood by their surviving family members.
The Change in Dynamics
Geu-ru's life takes a tragic turn when her father suddenly passes away. In the wake of this loss, her paternal uncle, Sang-gu (Lee Je-hoon), appears to become her legal guardian. Sang-gu is a former underground fighter recently released from prison, possessing a rough, cynical, and troubled personality. Initially, their relationship is strained and distant due to their completely opposite personalities, but by agreeing to work together in the family business, they both begin to heal their own emotional wounds while grappling with grief.
The Cases and the Stories
Throughout the series, each episode presents a different cleaning case that functions as an emotional puzzle. Geu-ru and Sang-gu clean the spaces of people who have died under various circumstances, such as:
A young construction worker who died due to workplace negligence and whose belongings reveal the harsh reality of his life.
Victims of domestic violence, neglect, abuse, or elderly people who die in complete solitude.
By arranging the objects, Geu-ru visualizes clues that allow her to uncover hidden truthsβsuch as silenced abuses or corporate malpracticeβand makes sure to deliver a yellow box with the deceased's sentimental belongings to their loved ones, ensuring that the deceased can say goodbye in peace.
Yoon Na-mu's Personality
Key traits of their personality:
Loyal and protective: She has known Geu-ru since childhood and does not hesitate to help and protect him from the prejudices of other people or the harsh attitudes of his uncle Sang-gu.
Empathetic and understanding: Accepts Geu-ru as he is, respecting his condition (Asperger's Syndrome) and always validating his feelings.
Energetic and rebellious (with a good heart): She defies her mother's expectations, who disapproves of her spending so much time with Geu-ru and getting involved in the "Move to Heaven" business.
Brave and curious: She decides to join trauma cleanups to take care of her friend and make sure he is safe, demonstrating a great sense of justice.
Yoon Na-mu's Appearance
Appearance of the character Yoon Na-mu
Style: Her clothing is simple, practical and very casual, in keeping with her daily life and her part-time job at the local aquarium.
Characteristics: She sports a youthful and casual look, often with loose hair and bangs. Her appearance reflects an energetic and approachable personality.
Yoon Na-mu
She is the best friend, neighbor, and unwavering support of Han Geu-ru, a young man with Asperger's syndrome. Her story revolves around her loyalty, her secret calling, and her romantic feelings for him.
Na-mu is a vital figure in Geu-ru's life. She has known him for years, perfectly understands his worldview, and protects him from societal misunderstandings. She is the only person, along with Geu-ru's father, who treats him with complete naturalness.
Background and Plot Development: Work as a Trauma Cleaner: Geu-ru's father ran a forensic cleaning business called Moving to Heaven. After his sudden death, Geu-ru is placed under the guardianship of her uncle, Sang-gu. Initially, Na-mu deeply distrusts her uncle because of his dark and violent past, so she decides to officially join the company to protect Geu-ru.
Double life and calling: Na-mu's mother strongly disapproves of the trauma cleanup business, considering it an ominous occupation. Therefore, Na-mu is forced to work at Moving to Heaven in secret, sneaking out of the house to help her friend organize the belongings of the deceased and uncover their untold stories.
Romantic feelings: Throughout the series, it becomes clear that Na-mu is in love with Geu-ru. Although their dynamic remains primarily that of a very close friendship, she is always looking out for his interests, even when their uncle Sang-gu enters their lives and everything changes.
Geu-ru's Personality
Methodical and organized: Due to his condition, Geu-ru relies heavily on daily habits and rituals. Everything in his life has a strict order.
Encyclopedic memory: He has an exceptional visual and mental capacity to retain details, classify information, and instantly recall scientific or mechanical data, allowing him to be extremely skilled in his work.
Brutal honesty: Not fully understanding social conventions or irony, he is completely direct and sincere in what he says, without ulterior motives.
Compassionate Empathy: Although she struggles to process or express complex human emotions, Geu-ru has a big heart. Her calling is to deliver a message of peace to the loved ones of the deceased, feeling a genuine need to help.
How these traits impact their work
In her work of "traumatic cleaning," her peculiar personality is not a weakness, but her greatest strength. Geu-ru doesn't judge the spaces or the lives of the deceased. She focuses intensely on the objects left behind and, thanks to her analytical mind, manages to reconstruct the last wishes or the truth behind each person's story.
Geu-ru's appearance
Utilitarian style: Prefers plain garments, in neutral colors or muted tones, without eye-catching prints that could cause sensory overload.
Functional layers: Frequently wear basic long- or short-sleeved t-shirts paired with button-down shirts, utility vests, or light jackets.
Work uniform: For "traumatic cleanings", wear the official company uniform: dark and resistant overalls or sets, always maintaining a neat appearance.
Footwear: Closed and comfortable sports shoes, ideal for walking long distances and bending down in the scenes you clean.
Short, straight bangs: They reach just to the middle of her forehead, leaving her eyebrows visible.
Rounded cut: The entire contour has a very clean and symmetrical design.
Short back: The hair is kept short at the back, very much in the classic Korean style.
Geu-ru
Geu-ru spent his childhood living solely with his father, Han Jeong-u. From a very young age, his father taught him to be extremely organized, to respect strict rules of coexistence, and to value the significance of the objects people leave behind when they die. Due to his condition, Geu-ru possesses a highly analytical mind and an extraordinary capacity for observation. Instead of feeling panic or overwhelming sadness, he uses the minute details of the rooms to piece together the stories and unspoken messages of those who have passed away. His father instilled in him that the work of "Moving to Heaven" is not just about cleaning, but about letting the living know the last wishes and feelings of their loved ones.
The Tragedy That Changes His Life: Geu-ru's life takes an unexpected turn when his father, who suffered from a heart condition, suddenly dies of a heart attack. Orphaned, a legal will designates his paternal uncle, Cho Sang-gu, as his temporary guardian. The transition is not easy. Sang-gu is a rough, cynical, and emotionally distant man who has just been released from prison after serving time for underground fighting. At first, Sang-gu and Geu-ru seem like polar opposites and clash constantly, but by working together in the cleaning business, they begin to heal their own traumas and understand the immense value of human stories.
The gift of deduction
Geu-ru's past and history are marked by his ability to "read" spaces.
He is able to: Analyze the mess and clothing to determine the conditions in which the person lived.
Finding hidden letters, receipts, or small belongings that reveal sad or hidden secrets of the deceased.
Deliver a package to the bereaved containing the full story of what the deceased wanted to communicate, offering emotional closure.
Cheo Sang-gu's Personality
Hostile and defensive: Accustomed to survival in a marginal environment, he appears rude and lacking in empathy at first.
Rebellious and irreverent: He despises rules and routine. He constantly clashes with the structured lifestyle of his nephew, who has Asperger's syndrome.
Marked by trauma: He hides deep wounds and feelings of guilt over a childhood accident involving his brother, which led him to isolate himself emotionally.
Protective at heart: Although he finds it difficult to show, he develops a strong sense of loyalty and care towards vulnerable people, especially towards his nephew Han Geu-ru.
Cheo Sang-gu's Appearance
Clothing: He wears casual, worn-out clothes. It's common to see him in leather or denim jackets, unbuttoned shirts, basic t-shirts, and baggy pants.
Physical appearance: He has somewhat long, disheveled hair. He sports a stubble beard and usually projects a tired, serious, or annoyed expression; he has a defined and strong physique.
Attitude: His body language is rough and aggressive, contrasting sharply with the neatness and methodical behavior of his nephew Geu-ru.
Cheo Sang-gu
Cho Sang-gu, Geu-ru's uncle, is an ex-convict and former underground martial arts fighter who, after being released from prison, unexpectedly becomes the legal guardian of his nephew with Asperger's syndrome. They end up working together as "trauma cleaners," sorting through the belongings of deceased people.
Criminal record: He was in prison for a tragedy that occurred at an underground fighting event.
Guilt and trauma: He carries immense guilt for the death of his boxing opponent, whom he was training.
Broken relationships: Her past is filled with tragic losses, including the death of her mother and an abusive father.
Lack of tact: He presents a rough-looking facade, which hinders his ability to initially empathize with the families of the deceased.
