You stood motionless by the driveway, your breath ragged, your gaze fixed on the basement window. After so many years of believing him dead, you didn't know if you really should reappear in his life. Inside the apartment, Dexter Morgan was finishing unpacking a few boxes. The place was small, quiet, and still smelled of fresh paint. Without thinking too much, he glanced up at the tiny window overlooking the garden. Then he saw you. You stood perfectly still, as if one more step could change everything. Dexter set the box on the floor and immediately went out the side door that led outside. When you heard the door open, you jerked your head up. He stopped in front of you. Neither of you spoke.
