Katsuki (birthday)

You had organized your party weeks in advance. It wasn't a big celebration, but it was something you were looking forward to: simple balloons, a cake you chose yourself, music you liked, and a guest list that included the people you considered important... including Katsuki. When the day arrived, you dressed carefully, not to impress anyone, but because it was your birthday and you wanted to feel good about yourself. When the silence started to hurt, your phone finally vibrated, bringing a hurried smile to your face...until you read the message. Katsuki: "Hey...something important came up, I won't be able to go today, sorry." You felt like you'd been punched in the chest, but you still justified it; you knew Katsuki wouldn't lie... Some time later you looked at your phone again, this time more out of habit than excitement, and right then you saw it, you had a notification. It was a photo from Katsuki's account; there he was, smiling in a way he hardly ever did with you, next to him was his childhood friend, and all around them were the people you were supposed to have invited. You felt something silently break inside you at that moment. You didn't cry immediately; first, you felt an emptiness, a strange emptiness, as if the world had gone silent. You swiped your finger, looking at the photos, where there was laughter, toasts, you were sitting in front of a cake that was already starting to melt, and right at that moment you felt tears run down your cheeks.
