Kuroo Tetsuro

He just hates getting tired. • Up till middle school, he would easily get sick after practice days or matches. • His nerves are always on edge because he doesn't want to be noticed. • He considered quitting volleyball when he was a first-year because he was constantly targeted and received harsh treatment by his seniors, but Kuroo talked him out of it. • His username on his games is "applepi".

His hair sticks up like that because it's his natural bedhead, according to Kenma. Due to the players' flexibility and solid receives and digs, the Boys' Volleyball Club team is nicknamed "The Cats" which is also an allusion to the school name. The club banner reads "Connect" which often refers to the connection of plays.

Nekoma, like most Japanese schools, has a uniform and dress code. The male uniform consists of a white shirt, red tie, black sweater vest, dark blue blazer, and grey pants. The female uniform, meanwhile, appears to have a light (likely white) top and matching collar, with a bow at the neck and a darker skirt.

The boys' volleyball club's uniform consists of a red tracksuit with white details with the school name written on the back of the jackets and the club written along the sides of their track pants. The members wear black t-shirts and red shorts during practice matches and often don a blue sports bib on top. During official matches, the majority of players wear a red jersey and shorts with black details. The libero has a contrasting jersey in white with red and black details.

If their opponents have a uniform that is similar to theirs in color, then the players will wear a white jersey with red and black details, and the libero a red jersey with black details.

Nekoma High (Japanese: 音駒ねこま高校こうこう, Nekoma Kōkō), or Metropolitan Nekoma High School (Japanese: 都立とりつ音駒ねこま高等学校こうとうがっこう, Toritsu Nekoma Kōtō Gakkō) by its full name, is a high school in Nerima Ward of Tokyo in Japan.

When Kenma was younger, he was shy and unable to make friends on his own. His only friend back then was Kuroo, who was around his age and lived next door. Though the two seemingly had little in common besides their age, they spent a lot of time together which at first had mostly consisted of playing video games. Then one day, Kenma asked Kuroo if he had something in mind that he had wanted to play. Kuroo was timid, but excited, as he introduced Kenma to volleyball.

Kuroo and Kenma in junior high. Although Kenma did not like sports back then, he found that volleyball was somewhat fun and especially enjoyed watching games on discs that Kuroo would have. Eventually, Kuroo convinced him to come with him to a practice session and even convinced him to be a setter by telling him of the setter position that seemed like it would be a good fit for a strategist like Kenma and also didn't require much movement, although Kenma would later learn this wasn't entirely true. Kenma later joined the junior high volleyball club where he received the number 4 on the team.

Kenma usually has a quiet, composed and analytical personality. He rarely loses his temper, and usually does not get too excited or fired-up about most things.

Kenma is depicted with an average height, a small build, and has an unsteady posture. He has many outstanding features, including his cat-like golden eyes and blond hair with black roots (sometimes referred to as "Pudding-Head"). He dresses casually, and his Nekoma uniform is the standard black and red jersey. He is usually seen carrying a portable game console and a cellphone with him.

Kenma Kozume (Japanese: 孤爪こづめ 研磨けんま, Kozume Kenma) was previously a second-year student from Nekoma High. He was the Volleyball Team's setter and was referred to as the "heart" and "brain" of the team by his teammates.

When Kuroo was around eight years old, his family moved next door to Kenma Kozume. During times when his father and grandparent's were out, Kuroo would go to Kenma's house. He was noted to be shyer and more withdrawn than Kenma at the time, so the two had a difficult time getting to know each other at first.

Initially, Kenma and Kuroo just played video games until one day when Kenma asked him if there's anything he would like to play. Kuroo took this opportunity and introduced volleyball to Kenma. The two ended up playing volleyball outside and grew familiar with each other.

Tetsurō Kuroo (Japanese: 黒尾くろお 鉄朗てつろう, Kuroo Tetsurō) was a third-year student at Nekoma High. He was the captain and one of the starting middle blockers for the Boys' Volleyball Team.

Kuroo has a laid-back yet scheming personality and is considered a "provocation expert" by many. He would actively provoke others and is unrelenting when dishing out snide remarks. This is demonstrated in the way he angers Tsukishima when the first-year blocker maintained a nonchalant attitude toward volleyball during the summer training camp. However, Kuroo is kinder and more genuine than what his exterior image conveys. After realizing he has overstepped a line, Kuroo seeks out and apologizes to Daichi about the provocation. Later on, proving that while he is a "provocation expert," sportsmanship is still important to him. He also cares and respects his elder coach, Yasufumi Nekomata, immensely, enough to help Karasuno improve to fulfill Nekomata's dream of competing against each other at nationals. As an adult, Kuroo uses flattery or tempting offers on certain players when trying to get them to agree to something, such as flattering Oikawa or telling Ushijima and Kageyama about offers he knew they wouldn't be able to refuse; each attempt succeeding.

Kuroo is noted to be tall and lean with broad shoulders, well-built arms, and a muscular frame. He has narrow, hazel-colored (grey in the manga) eyes with cat-like pupils that make him appear sly and intimidating. His black hair is naturally messy and spikes upwards due to his bed head. He also has a fringe on his right side that partially covers his eye. As a result of his peculiar hairstyle, he is occasionally called "Rooster Head".

Kuroo is often seen wearing a black shirt, red sweatpants, and the Nekoma High jacket. During official matches, he wears the Nekoma uniform numbered with the number 1.
