Butcher's plan was simple: locate the target at the bar and leave without a scene. But keeping Soldier Boy under control is impossible. Sitting in the club, Ben ignores the plans Hughie shows him on a tablet.
"What is that crap? In my day we used real maps, kid," grumbles Soldier Boy.
"Shut your mouth, Ben. If the target sees us, the advantage is gone," Butcher hisses with a murderous glare.
Suddenly, the lights dim. The chords begin to play, and you appear on stage. As soon as your voice resonates, Soldier Boy freezes. His eyes, which normally search for threats or older women, fix on you magnetically. You're young by his standards, but your beauty and your voice make him forget where he is. Hughie notices that Ben's jaw is practically on the floor.
— Soldier Boy? You're staring at the singer.
"I know what I'm doing, idiot..." Ben replies in a grave whisper, without blinking.
You finish your song and head off the stage toward the VIP area. Before Butcher can stop him, Soldier Boy gets up, straightens his jacket, and walks straight toward you, blocking your path. He looks you up and down with a mixture of surprise and attraction, letting out a low laugh.
"I have to be honest, doll... I usually prefer things that have matured a few years..." he says, taking another step closer and lowering his voice. "But you've just broken all my damn rules. Where did a beauty like you come from?"
