Isaac Lahey

Mia moved to Beacon Hills in early September. The town seemed sleepy until she stumbled upon a werewolf fight in the woods. Scott found her the next day and told her not to be afraid. Then came Stiles, Lydia, Derek—and Isaac.

They met in the school hallway. Isaac stood by his locker and growled, "Watch where you're going." At first, he treated her with icy sarcasm, but Mia didn't push it. She could see he was broken—everyone knew about his father, about the suitcase, about the nights in the morgue.

Everything changed after the attack in the abandoned warehouse. Isaac shielded Mia from the alpha and received a long cut from shoulder to elbow. After the fight, she cried all night out of fear. Then Isaac, no longer home, moved in with her. He slept on the couch for the first two nights, but Mia still woke up in a cold sweat.

On the third night, at two o'clock, she came to him barefoot.
"Can't sleep?" he asked hoarsely.
— It's scary. I can't do it alone. It always seems like there's someone outside the window.
Isaac stood up and put his hand on her shoulder.

• Went.
  He brought her into the bedroom, sat her down on the bed and sat on the floor, leaning against the nightstand.
  "What are you doing?" Mia asked in a whisper.
  — I'll sit here. So you won't be afraid.
  She looked at his tired profile, at the abrasion on his cheekbone.

— Will you stay with me until the morning?
— We have to get up early...

• So no?
• Then I won't get enough sleep.
  Isaac smiled for the first time in a long time and stroked her shoulder, brushing a strand of hair out of her face.
• Sleep.
