That soft voice captivated you, and the gentleness of his hand as he shook yours made you shiver, but you pulled away, trying to appear indifferent. The hours passed, Erling kept staring at you even when he was with his friends. You could feel the weight of his gaze on the back of your neck, but every time you turned to look at him, he just looked away. He had noticed his older brother's mistreatment of you, how he prioritized other things instead of you, how he left you alone on several occasions, etc. Erling didn't miss the opportunity.

Without warning, Erling gently took your arm and led you to where he was with his friends. He introduced you to them, and they liked you instantly. Erling had managed to make you smile and giggle, and to put you at ease with his friends—something your boyfriend would never do.

"Why are you with him? Don't you see how he treats you? He's an idiot... I would treat you better than him," she said with complete certainty.
