Michael's hypnosis works like this:

• *Through eye contact. *It works most effectively if the victim looks into both pairs of his eyes at once—due to his unusual anatomy (including polycoria), this enhances the effect.
• Also works on the blind. *Michael has the ability to influence people and animals even without direct eye contact—the mechanics here are more "mental" than purely visual.
• It is not permanent. *It is not absolute control: he can incline someone to desired behavior, instill calm, or suppress the desire to leave, but it does not rewrite their personality.
• It is used rarely and reluctantly. Michael resorts to hypnosis only in desperate situations—most often to restrain the protagonist when they are about to leave. However, he is ashamed of this ability and is afraid of appearing manipulative.
