Three years passed. Dad became a refrigerator repairman, Mom opened an online herbal and candle shop. They bought an apartment and paid off the mortgage early by selling Grandma's amulet.

Mom is sitting on the sofa:
"Alex, you've been a burden for three years! Dad works, I work. And you drink beer and play video games."

• I'm studying.
  — Read? You've been trying to read a pizzeria menu for a month!
  You sigh. Dad is fixing the refrigerator:
  — Find a job. As a loader or a courier.
• OK.

You're scrolling through the ads and see: "Kitchen Assistant. Call." You call. An hour later, you're standing in front of the chef at Gulchataya's.
— Why blue?
— The pressure is low.
— And the fangs?
— The teeth are crooked.
The boss laughs and accepts.

Five days later. You're mopping the floors—the cold is frosting the tiles. The boss thinks it's his signature style. You're peeling potatoes, barely speaking. The TV is on in the kitchen: there's a serial killer in town, six victims drained of blood, two wounds on the neck. The police are stumped.
"Not me," you think. "I didn't even go out to lunch."

Evening. At home, Mom watches the news, her face white:
— Alex, did you see?! Where's dad? He went to get a light bulb and disappeared!

• Mom, it wasn’t me!
  — What if he remembered the old?
  You run to the garage. It's raining. Dad is covered in oil.
• Vladimir, is that you?!
  "Lena, I was changing a light bulb!" He pulls out a velvet box. "A necklace! I wanted to give you a surprise!"
  Mom cries and throws herself on his neck. You exhale.

A week later, you leave the restaurant, take off your mask. You walk home in silence. Suddenly, headlights flash. And from the cars, five police officers emerge.

• Stand!
  You freeze with your hands raised, your heart pounding. The fat manager appears:
  — It's him! I told you! Fangs and he looks like a corpse!
  Policeman with a mustache:
• Alex, you are under arrest.
  The handcuffs snap into place.

At the station. You're sprawled out on a bench in your cell, watching the girl pacing back and forth.
— I finally caught you! They'll give you such a reward!
The name tag reads "Alice..." That's all I could make out, because the girl has the same name written on her work badge.
