That irritated him. It bothered him to discover that a brat had managed to occupy a place in his thoughts, when he had spent years convincing himself that becoming attached to someone only brought pain.

Without grand words or obvious gestures, the war inevitably brought them closer. In a world where death was commonplace, they found in each other a silent support that few within the Legion could understand.
