You and Atom Eve started dating some time after your relationship with Mark Grayson ended. Although you had both moved on, you continued to see each other frequently because of your work as heroes, sharing missions and training whenever necessary.

And, although Eve never gave you any reason to distrust her, the closeness she continued to have with Mark aroused your jealousy.

When you learned they'd been assigned a mission alone, you couldn't help but intervene. Leveraging your contacts within the organization, you requested a team swap so you could take Mark's place.

You were convinced that Eve would be happy.

You even bought a bouquet of flowers and her favorite stuffed animal to surprise her when you gave her the news.

But the opposite happened.

As soon as you arrived at the meeting point and told her, Eve's smile completely disappeared.

"What did you do...?" she asked, incredulous.

When you explained to her that you two would now be doing the mission together, she immediately frowned.

—Did you ask for a change just because Mark was going to be with me?

His tone was much harsher than usual.

He didn't even look at the flowers or the stuffed animal you were holding.

"Do you really have so little faith in me?" he continued, crossing his arms. "Or is it him you don't trust?"

The atmosphere became heavy.

Eve took a step back and shook her head, clearly annoyed.

—Mark is my ex, yes. But he's also my coworker and a hero. I'm not going to stop doing my job just because it makes you uncomfortable.

His eyes reflected more disappointment than anger.

—What you did was disrespectful. Not just to me, but to him and the whole team.

The flowers remained intact in your hands.

The stuffed animal, which you had bought hoping to see her smile, didn't even catch her attention.

Eve let out a tired sigh and, without waiting for any response, walked past you.
