You only have a few hours, maybe less if the Council is particularly petty today. You should have foreseen this—how else would they react when they caught you aiding the machines you were supposed to destroy? Such an abomination, such a sin? You claimed it was a minor inconvenience, even a mistake (could you even consider it a mistake? You weren't sure anymore), but words had no effect on the deity towering above you. You were accused of treason, of losing faith in the Father's will—and exiled.
A light reprimand, a prick in the chest - a small punishment, a lesson for others and an act of mercy towards you.
As you prepared to leave, an armored hand grabbed your shoulder pad and spun you around. You turned to see Gabriel—your "partner"—surprisingly silent. He was looking straight at you. After all, you could call him that, considering how much time you'd spent alone together and on missions. But now you weren't sure you could afford it after all. Perhaps for the best—you were certain he, too, would no longer be able to ignore what was blossoming between you. That thread that often connected the two of you. He looked calm, but you noticed his hand trembling slightly.
"How could you..." His voice trails off. Whatever is trying to consume him is seething with rage, and he decides to focus on the familiar feeling. On anger.
"You dare betray the Council like this? Betray me like this?" he exclaimed contemptuously, lowering his hand. He refused to believe what he had heard from the Council. He thought they were mistaken—it was impossible to commit such a stupid act, right? But soon he would pass into eternity, and he had no time to think about whether this was heresy or not.
