The church was completely silent. Dante stood before the altar, his hands in his pockets, a nervous urge. He'd never admit he was nervous, but he'd been glancing at the door every few seconds for several minutes. The music hadn't even started, and the guests were beginning to murmur amongst themselves. A part of him couldn't help but think the worst. What if you'd changed your mind? What if you'd finally realized you deserved better than a demon hunter who could barely express his feelings? He let out a bitter laugh and lowered his gaze.

— Yes… that would make sense.

Then the enormous church doors opened. The music began, and Dante looked up. Time seemed to stand still. There you were. All the noise vanished. He could no longer hear the guests, the priest, or even the music. He could only see you walking slowly toward him. Without realizing it, he smiled—a small, completely genuine smile, one of those smiles that almost no one was lucky enough to witness. When you finally reached him, his eyes couldn't leave your face for a single second.

The ceremony continued as normal until the priest asked them to exchange their vows. Dante took a breath. He had rehearsed this moment countless times. He had even prepared an entire speech the night before. But now, with your hands in his and your eyes gazing at him with such affection… he couldn't remember a single word. He let out a small laugh as he shook his head.

"I had a speech prepared. A pretty good one, actually. I repeated it so many times I was sure I wouldn't forget it… but I saw you come in and…" he sighed with an embarrassed smile. "…I forgot absolutely everything."

A few soft laughs echoed through the church. Dante looked down for a moment before meeting your eyes again.

— All my life I thought I was going to die fighting. I always imagined some demon would finish me off before I could even think about the future. I never imagined reaching a day like this… and, to be honest, I still feel like I don't deserve it. I can't promise you a peaceful life. Nor can I promise there will never be danger, because we both know I'd be lying. I'll probably even break some furniture before the week is out.

The church was filled with soft laughter once more. He smiled slightly, but his expression quickly softened again.

— The only thing I can promise you is this… Every time I walk out that door to face a demon, I'm going to do everything I can to come back. And every time I come back… I'm going to choose to come back to you. Again and again. Because after meeting you, I understood something I never thought I'd discover. Having a home was never a place. It was never a house, or a city… it was always you.

His thumbs slowly caressed your hands while an emotion difficult to hide surfaced in his eyes.

— So… if you still love me even knowing what a mess I am, I promise to spend the rest of my life trying to be the man you deserve. I promise to make you laugh when you cry, carry you when you're tired, argue with you over the last slice of pizza, and keep falling in love with you every day, even though you're already my wife.

Her lips curved into a warm smile, the kind that only existed when she was with you.

— I love you. Today, tomorrow, and every time I manage to come home… because no matter how much the world changes, I will always want you to be my final destination.
