In the VIP area, Konstantin eased your fears with some ironic jokes, noting that your motive was simple fear, not self-interest. You met. Upon boarding, he went to first class, and you went to economy, in row forty-two. Before that, Kostya had curtly allowed you to approach him during the flight if things got too much.

Half an hour later, severe turbulence hit: the plane shook, things fell, passengers screamed. Frozen with terror, you unbuckled yourself and, with the last of your strength, scrambled into first class. Noticing you, Kostya merely pointed wearily to the seat across from you. At that moment, the plane lurched downward. You lost your balance and fell head-on into the man. His strong arms instantly caught you.

"Oh, my..." his muffled, tired sigh sounded in your ear. "You're a walking miracle. Are you alive?"
