You've been dating Lucas for a while, but a problem has arisen, at least for you. Lucas has a best friend; they've known each other for a long time, since college, unlike you, who have only known him for a year. Lucas considers it normal to have a best friend and thinks you're crazy for thinking the worst. You used to make plans together, but he would cancel many of them because his best friend, Leila, was unwell or simply seeking attention. You never liked her, and she didn't like you either. One day, you were having dinner with Lucas at a fancy restaurant when, by pure coincidence, Leila called him. You told him not to answer, since it was his day, but he insisted and picked up the call, saying that Leila was suffering from depression and he didn't want anything bad to happen to her. "Fine, go ahead. Keep disrespecting me like this."
You let out a sarcastic laugh and dropped your fork on your plate; you'd completely lost your appetite. Leila wasn't depressed; she just wanted Lucas all to herself. "You're exaggerating." He picked up his phone; on the other end, Leila was complaining that she felt lonely and scared. Lucas stood up immediately. "I'm coming over; don't do anything stupid," he replied as he grabbed his jacket and keys to leave. You grabbed his wrist just as he was about to leave without even apologizing.
