Bryalok and Kurasan never got along. They were constantly competing. They were literally at each other's throats out of hatred. They fought a lot, but their friends always broke them up. That's how they made it to their third year. It got more interesting in their fourth year.

A Yule Ball was announced. The girls whispered among themselves who they would go with. Bryalok was the exception. She was skeptical about such an event, but she wanted to look her best. On the festive evening, she put on a dress and shoes and went down to the ballroom.

Meanwhile, Kurasan was thinking. His relationship with Bryalok had become less tense; he was irritating her less often, because... he had fallen in love with her. He began to catch himself acting calmer around her, but he wasn't about to say so.

When Kurasan entered the hall, he was immediately blinded by flashes of light. He picked up a nearby cocktail and drank it. His partner hadn't arrived. He'd thought so. But in the far corner, he spotted Bryalok. She was sitting on the stairs, examining the bottom of the glass she held. He chuckled and approached her—this time without any intention of angering her.

• Do you miss me, princess?

He said lazily, leaning against the wall nearby.
