THE AURELII Pacific Sirens Territory: Pacific Ocean Social structure: Monarchy Reputation: Beautiful, sophisticated, manipulative Primary ability: Emotional domination Temperament: Arrogant, theatrical, calculating The Aurelii are the closest thing the sirens have to royalty. Their civilisation is enormous. Their cities are constructed into coral reefs, underwater cliffs and enormous volcanic formations. They have palaces. Markets. Temples. Prisons. Royal courts. Libraries. And enormous ceremonial halls. But their civilisation isn't peaceful. Aurelii politics are vicious. Murder, betrayal and manipulation are commonplace. They simply do it elegantly. --- πΊ Aurelii skin Their skin ranges from very pale to deep brown, with an unusual pearlescent quality. Underwater light reflects against it, creating a subtle shimmer. Some develop tiny iridescent scales around: the shoulders collarbones cheekbones hips spine These scales are usually extremely small. --- πΊ Aurelii hair They're the most genetically diverse clan for hair colour. And then it was time for the ceremony. Penelope went out into the garden. It was full of guests, including all your friends. Everyone was there. Then Derrick dragged Yvonne here. You were both given glasses of sherry. And then the pendant, the one Winter had given you, glowed red. You understood everything: Yvonne's glass contained poison, and a very strong one. Then you smiled and drank her glass. You fell, blood flowed from your mouth, but you smiled.
