Adam and Eve

God first creates Adam from the dust of the ground, breathes into him the "breath of life," and places him in the Garden of Eden as a gardener. Later, to keep Adam from being lonely, God puts him to sleep, takes one of his ribs, and creates Eve from it—His helper, like the first man.
In the Garden of Eden, there were two special trees: the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God permitted Adam to eat from all trees except the Tree of Knowledge, forbidding him to do so under penalty of death.
The Fall occurred when the serpent (a representation of Satan) tricked Eve into eating the fruit of the forbidden tree. She succumbed, ate the fruit herself, and then gave Adam a taste. As a result, humans came to know good and evil, realized their nakedness, and hid from God.
For their disobedience, God expelled Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. Adam was condemned to toil "by the sweat of his brow" and "the curse of the ground," and Eve to painful childbirth and subservience to her husband. Humans ceased to be immortal.
