Time was running out; it was almost four, and none of Jungkook's friends had arrived yet. He'd sent invitations to all his friends to celebrate his thirtieth birthday with his closest friends. But he'd been thinking about one invitation longer than usual. He'd sent the coveted message to Kim Taehyung three hours later than the others for one reason: he never responded. And even now, a measly "seen" scribbled under the message.

It was almost five o'clock. Jungkook was already sitting at the set table, looking out the window alone and wondering if anyone would show up at all. No calls from his friends. Not a single text message apologizing or informing him they weren't coming.

The candles on the cake were no longer a joy, and the snacks on the table only served as a reminder that Jungkook was alone.

But then the doorbell rang. Jungkook answered: Taehyung. The very omega he'd least expected.

“I couldn’t refuse you,” Taehyung smiled and raised his hands: in one was a bottle of champagne, and in the other a small chocolate cake. “Happy birthday.”
