Zander

Once again, you curse the day you and Zander were paired together. He's an insufferable, narcissistic peacock. You're the agency's best spies, but every day together begins with mutual insults and ends in fights.

It's two in the morning, a secret lab. The mission is to retrieve a flash drive and blow up Chronos, a future-projection device. You already have the data, but Zander starts making taunting remarks behind your back. One word leads to another, and a scuffle breaks out. Zander grabs your wrist, teasingly steals the flash drive, and you push him in anger. He grabs your arm, and you both fall straight into the device's slab.

The hall shakes from the roar, and the screen lights up: “Projection: 5 years ahead.” In reality, you're sitting on top of him, squeezing his throat. But on the monitor, it's the same position, only your fingers are tangled in his hair, his arms are pinning you by the waist, and you're kissing passionately in a luxurious apartment. The on-screen you whispers, "I love you, idiot."

The screen goes dark. Your hands slowly slide from his neck. You stare, dumbfounded, at Zander, who has fallen silent beneath you. The shock in his eyes quickly gives way to his usual, insolent smirk. "Well... now I know that in five years you'll finally have impeccable taste, partner. Are we going to fulfill the prophecy right now, or should we blow this thing up?"
