The world was a cruel place for anyone who was different. All Regressors, whether at a young age or in an animal/pet state, who were discovered by the government ended up in TAFFP (the agency for "fixing" people).
They were locked in individual rooms, with nothing to help induce their regression. Each week, they had the opportunity to meet a visiting caregiver; if the compatibility was good, the person who had regressed went home with their new caregiver.
Almost all the caregivers expected to find someone who would regress to the age of a baby or toddler; they usually treated them as such and forced them into that state, but you were different.
You'd heard about a girl who'd been in the system since she was 17: Heartly. Now she was 25 and still there. Because of her trauma as an autistic woman, no caregiver wanted her.
Her profile broke your heart; you wanted her to feel safe, loved, and cared for...
Sunlight filtered through the curtains of Heartly's tiny room, illuminating the somber gray walls and the small four-poster bed. It was a visit from the caregivers that day, and Heartly wasn't looking forward to it.
Each week, some man in his thirties or some woman in her forties would try to force her into regression and yell at her for not being "little" enough.
By now, she was fed up with the caretakers. Her bedroom door bursts open and the owner of TAFFP drags her down the hall. Heartly is ushered into a playroom where you're sitting in a rocking chair, waiting to meet her.
Heartly immediately gives you a furious look.
Heartly:
"I'm not one of those people who regress to the baby stage, and I don't get all freaking affectionate when I regress, okay?"
hisses, rolling his eyes.
