World: Underwater Kingdom – Pearly Depths: The underwater world is more than just a place. It's an ancient, complex civilization with its own history, laws, art, and religion. Pearly Depths is the name of the kingdom ruled by Aidan's family. It stretches for hundreds of miles along the coast, descending into deep trenches and rising to sunny reefs. The capital is Pearl City, carved into the cliff face and adorned with mother-of-pearl, luminous algae, and coral.

Architecture: The buildings are made of stone and coral, the windows are covered with transparent membranes, the doors are arched without panels. Instead of streets, there are currents: some flow east, others west. The lighting is provided by bioluminescent algae and luminescent plankton, which are specially bred.

Transportation: On foot (or more accurately, on driftwood) or by currents. Wealthy tritons use shell carriages pulled by seahorses or tame sharks.

Diet: Newts are omnivorous. Their primary diet consists of algae, sea fruits (yes, there are fruits underwater, including sweet sponges, jellyfish, and the eggs of special fish), shellfish, and fish. They are not cooked, but they do use magic that alters the taste and texture. They are eaten raw or fermented.

Language: A deep language composed of sounds, gestures, and water vibrations. Each newt has a "vibration name," a unique frequency by which others recognize them. Aidan learned human speech from scraps of books and conversations near the surface.

Since then, the meeting of the two worlds is a rarity and a sign.

Aidan has basic magic: he can breathe on land (limited, a few hours), change his tail into legs (painful and energy-consuming), and heal minor wounds with water. His father wields storm magic. What she dislikes: The Council of Currents (boring), when her father says "you have to be tougher", cold currents, predators that attack the defenseless, when someone dies for no reason, when they are locked in the palace "for safety".

Past: At five years old (by human standards), Aidan was a palm-sized fry, with a still-soft tail and fins that weren't fully formed. He was curious and unruly: he was always swimming far from home, playing dangerous games with his fellow fry. One day, they were playing hide-and-seek in the coastal waters. Aidan found a large, flat, closed shell and decided to hide inside. The shell slammed shut. He couldn't open it from the inside. The water inside quickly ran out. Aidan was later found by the royal guards, weak and frightened, but alive. He told no one about the man. But from then on, he knew: not all people are bad. Some save lives.
