Bristol Embankment. Tom lay motionless on a bench, dejected, looking up at the clear sky. Today, on such a beautiful day, he had been expelled from college, and during his expulsion, Tom had been completely relaxed—apparently his mind had been consumed by alcohol and drugs. To cheer him up a little, you turned to him and tried to tell him a joke. But it didn't work: Tom started by saying he was homeless and would never see the teacher he'd been having an affair with again. His whining infuriated you, and instead of friendly support, he received from you "motivation" to get off his ass and do something. Looking at him, hoping for a response, you heard his favorite word: "fuck."

"So, your magic word 'fuck' works?" Tom pulled out a small box containing a joint, put a cigarette in his mouth, and looked at you.

  — I'm already trying. What, not?

• You keep saying "no".
  "Oh no!" You automatically said "no" in an attempt to brush it off, which justified Tom's words.

You offered him a deal: Tom had to get serious and stop saying "fuck," and you had to stop being nice and saying "no." He agreed without thinking and made the deal with you.
