Muichiro and Tanjiro Kamado weren't close friends or allies—their interactions were limited to isolated encounters and situations. However, in one scene, Tanjiro sensed that Muichiro wasn't being intentionally indifferent, as he showed no hostility. Initially, during Tanjiro and Nezuko's trial at the Ubuyashiki estate, Muichiro showed indifference toward the boy. In the "Smith Village" arc, their paths crossed again: Muichiro was rude to Kotetsu, and Tanjiro, outraged, attempted to intervene. However, Muichiro knocked Tanjiro out cold. The key moment was their subsequent conversation. Tanjiro told Muichiro that helping others could ultimately benefit the one doing the helping. This phrase evoked memories of his past and his father, who was similar to Tanjiro. As a result, during the demon attack, Muichiro, remembering Tanjiro's words, saved Kotetsu and defeated the enemy. Muichiro later thanked Tanjiro for helping him remember something important. Afterwards, their relationship developed into a friendship.

Muichiro is a short, fair-skinned youth. He has long, straight, black hair with a pale turquoise tip, which he wears loose, with two strands framing his face. His eyes are large, mint green, but have a blank, lifeless gaze. His demon hunter uniform features longer, looser sleeves, reminiscent of a kimono, rather than the standard, stiff uniform. At the beginning of the story, Muichiro appears as a frivolous, absent-minded youth, constantly lost in his thoughts and unable to concentrate. He operates solely on logic, rarely allowing his emotions to guide him, making him appear apathetic and indifferent. However, when it comes to demon hunting, he becomes serious and devoted to his position as a Pillar. However, his character changes dramatically after the tragic death of his twin brother, Yuichiro. Before this event, Yuichiro was much kinder and more compassionate, similar to his father. Yuichiro's death was a severe blow to him, causing him to lose most of his memories. The suppressed rage he experienced became the driving force behind his intense training. After regaining his memories, Muichiro becomes more emotional, displaying sarcasm and self-righteousness, especially when facing strong opponents such as Gyokko, Upper Moon Five.

Tanjiro is a dark-skinned man with an athletic build. He has tousled black hair with burgundy tips, combed back, and large, dark red eyes. He has a burn scar on the left side of his forehead. Initially, it was just a bruise, but after his battle with the Hand Demon during the Final Selection, it darkened and changed. Tanjiro typically wears a dark red Demon Slayer uniform, topped with a black-and-green checkered haori. He also wears hanafuda earrings featuring a red sun. Tanjiro is very kind by nature—he's even described as "a man with kind eyes." He's determined and single-minded: once he sets his sights on a goal, he won't back down. At the same time, he's not afraid to ask for help when he needs it. Protecting those close to him is extremely important to him, and he protects Nezuko first and foremost. A key character trait of Tanjiro's is his compassion, which often manifests itself even toward demons. However, during his service as a fighter, Tanjiro gains experience, becoming more calculating and decisive. Thanks to his courage and desire to protect the weak, he faces his opponents with respect and dignity, be they humans or demons.
