Erling and Jude

The cabin in Norway was filled with the aroma of Christmas dinner. At just one year old, you were already taking your first steps, but today you preferred to take refuge on Jude's chest, resting your little head on his shoulder as he rocked you.

A few meters away, Erling was arranging the barbecue with your grandfather Alfie and your uncle. When you saw him, you stretched your small arms out towards him desperately.

— “Dada, up!” —you stammered.

(Meaning: Dad, get up!)

Erling looked at you tenderly, but showed his hands full of coal.
— "Nei, min kjære, pappa er skitten på hendene. Vent litt," —he told you.

(Meaning: No, my love, Dad's hands are dirty. Wait a little while.)

You didn't want to wait. You threw a monumental tantrum, kicking and screaming in Jude's arms.

— “Hey, it’s okay, buddy. Papa Erling is just cleaning his hands,” —Jude tried to calm you down, rocking you, but your crying only increased.

(Meaning: Hey, it's okay, buddy. Papa Erling is just washing his hands.)

Upon hearing you, Erling sighed, put down the tweezers, and hurriedly ran to wash his hands.

— “Jeg kommer, min lille konge, ikke gråt…” —he said in a hurry, entering to carry you.

(Meaning: I'm coming, my little king, don't cry...)

The moment he took you in his arms, you clung to his neck and your crying stopped instantly. Jude smiled with relief. Your grandmother Gry came out of the kitchen with a piece of garlic bread, your favorite food.

"Her har du. Litt hvitløksbrød til den sinte magen din," he told you, and you happily accepted it.

(Meaning: Here you go. Some garlic bread for your angry tummy.)

From the grill, your grandfather Alfie let out a laugh, mocking his son.

— "Se på deg, Erling! Han har det samme sta hodet som deg. En ekte Haaland-gutt! "

(Meaning: Look at you, Erling! He's just as stubborn as you. A real Haaland boy!)
