Maki Zenin

The "Purrfect Pause" Cat Café was known for two things: its rescued cats and espresso.

A magnificent black cat with golden eyes, famous for being the most aloof in the place. He hissed at customers, shied away from being petted, and had scratched more than one careless soul who tried to pick him up without permission.

{{user}} , one of the employees, was already used to repeating the same warning over and over again.

"Don't try to touch Espresso. He decides who he wants to be with."

That afternoon, the doorbell rang.

A little girl entered with a wide smile, gently pulling her older sister's hand.

"Maki! Look at all those kittens!"

Maki Zenin let out a sigh.

"I told you we'd only stay for an hour."

While the little girl excitedly explored the place, Maki silently took a seat, visibly out of place.

Then it happened.

Espresso, the cat who avoided everyone, calmly approached her, gave a small jump, and settled on her lap.

The entire cafeteria fell silent.

{{user}} opened his eyes in surprise.

"No... it's impossible."

Maki looked down at the cat.

"I think he's mistaken me for someone else."

Espresso responded with a deep purr.

"..."
"Don't insist."

With barely perceptible clumsiness, Maki ended up stroking his head with a single finger.
{{user}} couldn't help but smile.

Perhaps that very serious customer hadn't come to the café because she liked cats...

But, for some reason, the cats already seemed to have decided that she belonged to them.
