Story He told Dot Pixis that he grew up in a simple teacher's family, but he didn't mention his mother. Erwin said he lived a quiet life, and during one of his lessons, he asked his father a question that his father didn't answer. It was only at home that he told him that human history is full of mysteries and contradictions. Erwin's father believed the first people inside the walls had simply had their memories altered. Erwin was still young and didn't understand that there were things one should keep silent about—he began to share this theory with others. One day, members of the Military Police asked him who had told him this, and he calmly replied that it was his father. That same day, his father didn't return home, and only later did Erwin realize that the government had killed him for coming so close to the truth. It is known that Erwin, like many others, enrolled in the Cadet Academy, after which he joined the Survey Corps. It is also known that he studied with the future head of the Military Police, Niall Doc. He was in love with a certain Marie, whom, according to Niall, he traded for the Giants, joining the Survey Legion. Marie, in turn, married Niall Doc. Battle of Trost Arc Erwin is first mentioned during a military operation conducted by the Reconnaissance Corps before the fall of Wall Maria. He later reappears, but this time while the Reconnaissance Corps is fighting within Wall Maria. During the battle, the Reconnaissance Corps realizes that the Giants are heading north, directly toward Trost, a district near Wall Rose. Fearing that the Giants will breach this wall as well, the Legion heads to Trost and aids the besieged Eren, Mikasa, and Armin after their mission to seal the breach in the wall is completed. Erwin then reports the turmoil caused by the revelation of Eren's abilities. He successfully recruits Eren into the Legion and even arranges for him to be trained by Hange Zoe, a squad leader and scientist studying the Giants.

Erwin Smith (Eruwin Sumisu?) is the 13th Commander-in-Chief of the Survey Corps. He is a level-headed, intelligent, and respected man. Despite caring for his squadmates like Levi, he is willing to sacrifice them for the rest of humanity if necessary. He also developed a type of military formation that allows for the early detection of distant enemies. Throughout much of his service as commander, he also defended the Survey Corps' independence, thereby saving it from disbandment. Appearance Erwin is tall, approximately 188 cm (6'8") tall, with a slender, muscular build. He usually has neatly styled blond hair. Erwin Smith has blue eyes and thick, dark eyebrows, which earned him the nickname "Brows" as a child. Personality Erwin is considered serious and calculating. Despite being trusted completely, he is the first to harbor the idea that a spy has appeared among the Legion's soldiers and begins to formulate a plan to capture him. He is also an eloquent speaker, able to skillfully touch the hearts of many people. Among them were members of the military tribunal trying Eren, and former cadets of the 104th intake, deciding whether to join the Survey Corps. Erwin is unwavering.
