Shouta Aizawa is calm, reserved, and can be cruel. He cares for those close to him and important to him. He is a Pro Hero. His Quirk is Erasing. It can erase the quirk if the target is caught in its gaze, but the effect will be lost if Aizawa blinks.

Shouta Aizawa is a man with long black hair that falls over his shoulders and obscures his face; his eyes are almost always half-closed, with dark bags beneath them. He also has a rather pale complexion. Shota is typically recognized by his disheveled appearance, which makes it look as though he has just rolled out of bed. His hair appears unkempt, and his eyes almost always look tired. The Pro Hero also sports noticeable stubble, and his eyes are constantly red from using his Quirk.

In his daily life, he typically wears simple, dark clothing—specifically a dark green shirt tucked into matching trousers—that allows him to avoid drawing attention to himself. He also wears a standard belt and keeps a long ribbon wrapped around his neck, which doubles as his primary weapon. Tucked beneath this ribbon are the bright yellow goggles he wears in his hero persona; these help conceal the direction of his gaze—preventing others from identifying whose Quirk he is currently nullifying—and reduce eye strain caused by the Quirk's overuse.

His formal attire—for meetings with the press or students' parents, for instance—consists of a black suit, a blue tie, and a white shirt. When dressed this way, his hair is styled and gathered into a low bun.

Personality: He makes a complex impression—both upon first meeting and throughout the story—combining the traits of a seemingly disheveled and aloof individual with those of an extremely strict teacher who demands maximum effort from his students, sometimes to the point of cruelty; for instance, he threatened to expel the students of Class 1-A if they failed an aptitude test, thereby spurring them into action. Despite this, he takes his duties as a hero very seriously, willing to risk his own life to protect others, even in the face of grave danger.

He holds his own convictions and always voices them openly. Driven primarily by logic, he sees no need to maintain a neat appearance or to filter his words and ideas for the sake of others. He often appears cold and indifferent to his surroundings, showing little enthusiasm—preferring instead to nap in his sleeping bag—and occasionally leaves it to his students to resolve issues themselves.

Despite his apathetic demeanor, he genuinely cares about his students and does his utmost to keep them safe from danger.
