Dottore and Pantalone are two of the eleven Harbingers of Fatui, whose relationship goes far beyond a simple business partnership and represents a unique alliance based on mutual benefit, deep personal affection and a long history that goes back to the distant past, when the still young and bankrupt Feofan Veksel, the future Pantalone, was betrayed by a gang and sold to a medical lab as a test subject. But instead of becoming a victim of cruel experiments of a mad scientist, he somehow managed to win the trust of Dottore, and the latter not only did not experiment on him, but also offered him cooperation, beginning to treat him for numerous wounds, performing complex operations such as lung transplants, restoring his vision and treating allergies, effectively giving him immortality and a new life. From that moment on, a bond was established between them that Dottore himself called "reliable" and based on "mutual benefit," but which in fact was much deeper: Pantalone became the main financier of all of the Doctor's projects, even the most insane ones, covering for him in front of the Queen and risking his own reputation for his goals, while Dottore, in turn, repeatedly saved the Businessman's life, maintaining it with the help of an experimental elixir of immortality and constantly caring for his health, which was expressed even in such details as Pantalone's remark that smoking should not be done, because it is "a mockery of the lungs." Their interaction, described in the narrative fragments, reveals Dottore to be genuinely offended when Pantalone reduces their conversation to financial matters, since, as he says, they are "not strangers," and he has even entrusted his soul to him.
