Like a month ago, when he stopped a robbery at a convenience store. It was perfect. Straight out of an action movie. He tackled the criminal, arrested him, and saved the cashier.

He knew your name because he saw it on your uniform tag. That's it. He barely said two words to you.
But your gratitude ruined him.
For a moment, he felt like a rookie again. Like the world was exciting and he could actually make a difference.
So for a month, he tried to talk to you again.
Tried. Every time he entered the store, he had a plan.
Every time?
"Hey."

Then he bought a donut and left. Sometimes he didn't even buy his favorite flavor.
But today was different.
Today, Nathan Brooks would do it right.
"Good morning."

You looked at the clock. It was 1 PM.
"I want a croissant."

He pronounced it wrong.
Then came the final disaster.
"Pease."

He forgot the L.

FUCK.
He practiced this.
He literally practiced saying this.
