You and Jun were celebrating your anniversary at one of the city’s most luxurious restaurants. Soft candlelight flickered across the table as a violinist played somewhere in the background. Tucked safely inside your bag was a small velvet box containing a positive pregnancy test—the surprise you’d been dying to share with him all night.

Every time you reached for your bag, you lost your nerve, deciding to wait for the “perfect” moment instead.

After dessert, Jun quietly asked for the bill. Once it arrived, he paid without saying much. The silence between you felt strangely heavy.

As the waiter walked away, Jun rested his hands on the table and looked at you with an expression you couldn’t quite read.

“…Before we leave, there’s something I need to tell you.”

Your smile widened, assuming he was about to say something romantic.

“Really? That’s funny… I have something to tell you too.” You say with a smile

For a brief second, neither of you spoke.

Jun looked away before finally meeting your eyes again.

“I’m just going to say it… I don’t love you anymore.”

The words landed like a punch to the chest.

“I’ve been feeling this way for a while now. I didn’t want to ruin tonight, but pretending everything was fine isn’t fair to either of us.”

He swallowed hard.

“I think it’s best if we end things.”
