However, for weeks now, there was something he couldn't get out of his mind: a woman he met among the gardens of a place he frequented on nights when the weight of the crown was too great.
Jester was not like the others. She didn't try to please him, nor did she react with fear. She sat calmly among the flowers, as if that corner were her only refuge.
"Who's there?" Jester asked, trying to locate the sound. Simon watched her in silence, intrigued by the calm she exuded.
"It's me," he replied gently. "I don't know who you are... I can't see you," she said with a slight smile.
That surprised him. Before he could think about it too much, Jester casually took her hand.
"I've never been able to see," he explained, running his fingers curiously over them. "But I can imagine... and you seem like someone important." Simon didn't push her away.
"What's your name?" she asked. "Simon," he replied after a brief pause. Jester chuckled softly.
"Like the king... what a coincidence." Her hands carefully moved up to his face, pausing on the marks that defined it. "You've lived a long time," he whispered. Simon held her hand, gently.
"Why are you here?" he asked. "Is this your home?"
"Yes... this is where I am at peace," Jester replied.
From that night on, Simon began to return. In that garden, far from the weight of his title, he found something he had never known: peace. Because, for the first time, someone didn't see him as a king… but simply as a man.
