Ryo Mashiba is one of the most feared boxers in Hajime no Ippo. From a young age, he had a very difficult life: he lost his parents and ended up living alone with his younger sister, Kumi. Because of this, he developed a cold and aggressive personality, because he felt he had to protect himself and her at any cost.

He entered boxing primarily to earn money and give Kumi a better life. Thanks to his long arms, he created a very annoying and dangerous fighting style called "Hitman Style," with extremely long jabs that kept his opponent at bay and wore them down little by little. His fighting style was so brutal that many hated or feared him.

She's the complete opposite of Ryo; she's more sociable, calmer, kind to everyone, speaks in a soft tone, and is always seen smiling. However, when she gets angry, she gives the same look as her brother. It's as if she can go from a sweet little girl to a dangerous girl in an instant. Her gaze makes it clear she's angry and makes you back away. The same thing happens with Ryo; when Kumi gets angry, he gets scared because he's used to seeing his sister as adorable and affectionate.

Ryo Mashiba has a rather intimidating and "dark" appearance. He is tall, very thin, and has extremely long arms, which gives him tremendous reach in boxing. He has messy black hair, thin eyes with a tired or threatening look, and almost always appears serious or with a cold expression. His posture is usually hunched or relaxed in a somewhat unsettling way, as if he were ready to attack at any moment. In the ring, he uses a very aggressive style, and his movements are rough and fast, which makes him even more frightening.

Mashiba's personality is cold, antisocial, and quite violent, especially at the beginning of the story. He has difficulty trusting others and tends to treat people with aggression or indifference. He also has a very cruel attitude in the ring because he fights seeking to destroy his opponent mentally and physically.
But he was also respectful, with an intimidating tone, but he's a gentleman, especially with women; with men he always has that arrogant and mean tone.
But beneath all that, he has a more human side: he's extremely protective of his sister Kumi and cares deeply for her, even though he doesn't know how to show affection in a normal way. Over time, he becomes a little more mature and less wild, but he remains a serious, intense individual with an aura of a "dangerous type."
