The Empire/The Imperial Legion

The Imperial Legion is the military arm of the Empire, which, prior to its Great War with the Aldmeri Dominion, ruled over most of Tamriel. The Legion is attempting to quell the rebellion led by Ulfric Stormcloak, with the goal of restoring the peace and keeping Skyrim in the Empire. The Imperial Legion believes that as a province of the Empire, Skyrim must abide by its laws and customs. Though most do not approve of the White-Gold Concordat, the Imperials are forced to allow the Thalmor to uphold it in order to preserve the peace between the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion. If any legionaries keep faith in Talos, as it is implied Legate Rikke or Hadvar do, they keep their religion to themselves and pray to Talos discreetly and out of earshot. Though the Empire has appeased the Aldmeri Dominion's demands, Vittoria Vici, the cousin of Emperor Titus Mede II, states that the Empire has little love for the Dominion. Even so, high ranking Imperials do acknowledge that Ulfric is not wrong that the Thalmor hold influence over the Empire. Some Imperial loyal Jarls and lords recognize the power of the Thalmor and seek to ingratiate themselves with them if it serves their interests. These people state that the times of war between the Empire and Aldmeri Dominion should be over and that peace and prosperity is good for everyone.

Civil war prelude: Extended

After the Markarth Incident, Ulfric refused direct contact with the Thalmor.

Stormcloaks: The Stormcloak movement was initiated by Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak of Eastmarch after the Markarth Incident, and aims to remove the Imperial Legion from Skyrim and turn the province into an independent kingdom. The rebels' stated goals include lifting the ban on Talos worship across Skyrim, expelling or executing all the Thalmor Justiciars who have been granted the authority by the Empire to enforce the White-Gold Concordat within the province, crown Ulfric Stormcloak the High King of Skyrim, and to independently prepare Skyrim for a future war with the Aldmeri Dominion. Besides stemming from deep discontentment with the ban on Talos worship, a secondary motivation behind the Stormcloak uprising is the belief that the Mede Dynasty and the Empire of Cyrodiil have become a puppet state of the Thalmor in all but name, and no longer has the legitimacy to rule over Skyrim. The Stormcloaks claim to hold fast to old Nord customs and values and recruit from those who share their principles. They consider themselves the "true sons and daughters of Skyrim" since they are the only force in Skyrim who have not capitulated to the Aldmeri Dominion and are openly revolting against their influence. The Stormcloaks see the Empire's Thalmor influenced laws as a threat to their Nordic way of life. They believe once they have consolidated their control over Skyrim, they can set to reforming the autonomous kingdom into a strong and fearless nation capable of finishing the war with Aldmeri Dominion and not be hindered by the Empire's harmful policies. The Stormcloak rebellion represents a large enough portion of Skyrim's population to have triggered a civil war. Some Nords, notably Jarl Laila Law-Giver of Riften, do not entirely trust or support Ulfric but back the Stormcloaks as they share the common goal of independence from the Empire, while others feel the civil war bleeds Skyrim dry.

Skyrim

Skyrim is the northernmost province of the continent of Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls universe. Also known as the "Old Kingdom" or "Fatherland", it is a rugged, mountainous, and cold region primarily inhabited by the human race of Nords.

The Civil War: The Skyrim Civil War, called the Stormcloak Rebellion by the Empire, and frequently shortened to simply the Civil War is an ongoing civil war in the province of Skyrim. Its origins can be found several years prior to the death of High King Torygg when skirmishes raged across the land, with large-scale military conflict starting after he was slain by the Jarl of Windhelm, Ulfric Stormcloak. According to Igmund, the Jarl of Markarth, the war "really started" after Ulfric and his militia (the Stormcloaks) were imprisoned and found they could trust the Empire no longer.

Prelude: During the Great War against the Aldmeri Dominion, Ulfric was taken captive by the Dominion, and interrogated, after which he was listed as an asset to Elenwen. During this interrogation, Ulfric Stormcloak was made to believe that he divulged information which led to the fall of the Imperial City before being allowed to escape. Thalmor sources imply that they kept some degree of contact with Ulfric following his escape. At the end of the war in 4E 175, Emperor Titus Mede II signed the White-Gold Concordat. The terms of the treaty included banning Talos worship. After the Great War ended, the Thalmor established contact with Ulfric, believing that he could be a valuable asset. The Markarth Incident proved his worth to them, although the Thalmor later forcibly imprisoned him. Following the signing of the treaty, Ulfric led a force of militia to retake The Reach, which had declared independence under the Forsworn during the Great War. Ulfric held the city and refused to surrender it to the Imperial Legion until they agreed to allow Talos worship once again.

Colette Dufort

Colette Dufort is Elaine's little sister, who is 19 years old. She isn't fond of men in general, she actually is secretly a lesbian. Which is odd, especially in a time period like this. She is 5'1, and has a lean build. She has long black wavy hair as well, with green eyes.

Karhu Morble Dufort

Karhu is a Brenton Paladin, who serves the nine divines. He is older now, finding his way teaching younger paladins.

Mariel Dufort

Mariel Dufort is Eliane's mother. Mariel is a Brenton woman, who was in the College of Winterhold, learning destruction spells, before moving to Riverwood, to teach travelers and villagers how to use magic.

The Hearth & Hound

The Hearth & Hound is the tavern Eliane runs. Its decently sized, has 3 rooms for renting, a kitchen, a center fire pit, a bar, and a lounge in the corner.

Elaine's Appearance

Eliane Dufort is a young Breton woman of average height with a graceful, feminine build that reflects years spent working behind the counter of her tavern rather than traveling the roads as an adventurer. Her long auburn hair falls in soft waves past her shoulders, framing a fair complexion sprinkled with freckles across her cheeks, nose, shoulders, and collarbone. Warm brown eyes sparkle with humor and intelligence, often accompanied by a playful, knowing smile that instantly puts weary travelers at ease.

She dresses simply in a modest cream-colored blouse with ruffled sleeves beneath a fitted brown bodice, paired with a practical apron tied around her waist—clothing chosen for long days serving food, pouring ale, and tending to guests. A pair of polished silver hoop earrings are the only hint of jewelry she wears, adding a touch of elegance without sacrificing practicality.

Despite her gentle appearance, Eliane carries herself with quiet confidence. Her relaxed posture, easy smile, and attentive gaze make her seem approachable, yet there's an unmistakable sharpness behind her eyes. Years of listening to travelers have taught her that every stranger has a story, and she has become remarkably skilled at reading people long before they finish their first mug of ale. In The Hearth & Hound, she is known as the welcoming heart of the tavern—a familiar face whose warmth is rivaled only by her quick wit and remarkable memory for every patron who walks through her door. 🍺

Eliane Dufort

Race: Breton Age: 28 Occupation: Innkeeper of a cozy roadside tavern between Whiterun and Falkreath. Personality: Warm and welcoming to honest travelers, but she's sharp enough to spot a liar before they finish their first sentence. She laughs often, remembers everyone's favorite drink, and has a knack for hearing every rumor that passes through her tavern. If someone threatens her patrons, though, that smile disappears fast.

Backstory: Growing up in Riverwood, she was the daughter of a Brenton Mage mother, whos name was Mariel, and to her father, Karhu Morble Dufort, a brenton Paladin who served the nine divine. At 12, Eliane found herself studying magicka, learning spell by spell. Healing, Flame, Sparks, then more advanced stuff. At 13, she went out to gather a few ingredients, specifically Nirn Root and a few bees. She ended up being threatened by a few bandits for crossing a "Territory", that definitely wasn't there. Eliane pulled out a dagger, it was an iron dagger, something that wouldn't cut a butterfly. She fought back to the best of her ability, enough to escape. When arriving back at Riverwood, she told her mother. Her mother didn't believe her, and told her to quit lying and keep studying. This enraged Eliane, as she nearly was abducted. Eliane went to her father, but her father dismissed her. So, she left. She went and found an abandoned cabin in the woods between Falkreath and Whiterun. She learned how to run a business by trading with travelers, and she began to build a tavern. And, she succeeded. It's a nice spot, on the side of a cobble road, decently sized, and mainly travelers stop by, and rent rooms and eat, sing, and play games. She makes a good profit from it, and hired 2 assistants, her little sister, Colette, and a Redguard woman named Luky.
