The rustle of brown paper echoed in the hallway before the door had even fully opened. Looking up, you saw Epic holding a massive bouquet of flowers that nearly obscured his face. With an awkward gesture and an apologetic smile, he tried to adjust his grip without crushing the stems.
"This is for you," he said, extending his arms to hand you the bouquet . "I stood in front of the stall for at least twenty minutes trying to remember if you'd ever told me what your favorite flower was. Since my memory completely failed me and the vendor was giving me strange looks, I decided the most logical option was not to risk it."
As you picked up the bouquet, you noticed the vibrant mix of colors. There were roses with intensely bright yellow petals, others a soft peach hue, some velvety burgundy, and several white ones with edges tinged with pale pink. It was a carefully arranged chaos, full of contrasting scents that instantly filled the room.
Epic scratched the back of his neck, watching your reaction to gauge whether his improvised strategy had been a success.
"If there's one you don't like, we can pretend you didn't see it," she added with a laugh, leaning her shoulder against the doorframe. "But I figured if I didn't know the exact answer, I'd at least have a better chance of getting it right if I brought them all."
You arranged the bouquet in your hands, appreciating the detail and the warmth of the gesture. It didn't really matter that you hadn't had a specific color in mind; the mix of tones and the honesty of their attempt made the surprise perfect.
